Lol after living in rural Wales for 15 years and being English I have a particular appreciation for the Welsh valley people
That's a pity. On the whole, most people are sensible and get along. Of course you always get one or two "crusaders" on both sides, unfortunately.
Well I had no opinion one way or the other when I moved here but in the rural parts I've encountered some of the worst racist of anywhere I've been in the UK and I've been all over the UK. My neighbour throws rubbish over the garden he's set fire to the fence and he used wait for me to come out the front door to start a row lol he used to loose every time lol one day I just laughed in his face and left next day the car got keyed up ffs and of course the local copper is his cousin in fact they're all related, I once saw a load of them turn on a black guy dropping his kids of at school. Oh @ the OP they're not all like that so don't let it put you off going to Wales there's lot's to do and see there.
Meanwhile, in Scotland... http://www.scotsman.com/anti-english-bullying-1-1810591 You'll find idiots anywhere you look, Wales has no more than it's fair share.
the only time I have been to Wales I stayed in Harlech. We had an amazing week exploring on my motorcycle, everywhere we stopped was very friendly and very pretty. Going to Snowdon on the train was brilliant, but the mountain roads all around north Wales are just stunning. Get yourself lost and enjoy what you discover
I'm lucky enough to live right next to Snowdonia. Really beautiful area. My personal favourite is Llyn Idwal. Definitely go for a walk there if you get the chance. Sorry to hear about some of the horrid gits you've encountered here Teelzebub. I've never come across anyone like that. All the people around here are really lovely. Except the chavs of course. They're a bit ****. Then again.. is there anywhere in the UK where chavs aren't ****?
As I said they aren't all like that I was just unlucky to get the nasty old perv for a neighbour from what I hear he used to beat the wife and interfere with his daughters now he's old and on his way out I tell him often he's going to hell lol scares the s**t out of him Seriously there's a lot of nice country side and some amazing views I spent a month zig zaging across wales from south to north in a camper van found some amazing places and all free too
Nice picture. Idwal slabs and the Devil's Kitchen (Twll Du). I've walked through there and up the back onto Glyder Fawr many times. A beautiful spot and the head of a glacial valley that Charles Darwin visited to study the geology. From the sound of it, if you're desperate for somewhere to sleep and you're near where Teel lives, drive onto the next village lol.
We'd give better tips if we knew which part of Wales you were visiting. North and South Wales both have amazing scenery and things to do, but it's not easy to get from north to south (or vice versa). Likewise, if you're in the south-west (Pembrokeshire or Ceredigion), you may not want to go all the way to Cardiff (once you get to Carmarthen, most of the main roads become single carriageway with only parts of them dualled. If you're in a Welsh-speaking area, learning to say "diolch" properly can go a long way
A4069 / B4560 / Evo Triangle... Oh and quite a few nice walks / places to visit as well. Did I mention the 4069?! I love Wales, My Fiesta ST MP215 loves it even more. Going back this September for our wedding anniversary, most likely to the Snowden area (staying in either Porthmadog or Bewts ye Coed).
Offa’s Dyke Path is a pretty good walk as well http://www.contours.co.uk/walking-holidays/offas-dyke-path.php
