I thought this might be fairly interesting, what wax do you use on your car?

What do you swear by to keep it ultra shinny and protected?

I've been reading around, auto express keep doing tests, and although the 2008 results are a fair bit different to the previous ones, I have decided to give the Car Plan Triple Wax Shampoo + Turtle Wax Platinum Wax + Turtle Wax Gloss Guard a go, it seems to be the winning combination.

Now I am sure you are all thinking, wtf would you want to do all that to make your car shiny? Well, from the reviews, it really does look after the paint work, the rain water rolls off easily so no streak marks, and if you do all three, there is a good chance that you wont have to reapply for about 3 months, meaning you can just wash off with surface dirt with the shampoo, this seems like quite a good idea to me, especially in winter, what do you lot think?

Cheap turtle wax when i remember, not terribly car proud.

off topic, i guess you got your new motor then given all the car questions.

I don't use wax, I get my pupils to apply it for me...wax on, wax off, wax on...

Actually, I just use cheapy Turtle Wax whenever I can be bothered to clean the car (it's a 4x4, so there's a *lot* of car to wax). Although with all the rain we've been having recently, I've been giving plenty of thought to giving some proper wax a go.

Anybody got any suggestions for a wax for metallic paint?

I usually use Mothers or McGuire's, but I've been wanting to try the new Turtle Wax Ice. And then I also use turtle wax car wash with wax beads.

Meguairs NXT Tech, or Turtle wax ice, the liquid stuff, with a motorised buffing tool. Also the turtle wax car was with wax beads.

I used to have a Rav4 so I feel that! lol

I've read that TurtleWax Ice, Platinum and the Extreme Nano Tech stuff is good for all paints.

@ Stevo, yup, just got a Silver Fabia vRS, it looks nice but the valeting wasn't very good from the garage I bought it from so I wanna find out the best stuff to make it super shiney hehe

This is quite interesting because the group tests i've been reading have all said the ICE stuff is really popular out in the states but hasn't really caught on over here. The Meguaires Cleaning Wax came second in the group test, with another american branded paste wax coming out number one.

Up until this year though, the Turtle Wax Platinum Extra Gloss was rated as the best, although this is to be put on OVER the wax coat, I think it acts as a sealent with extra shine.

Here is the 2008 group test: http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/products/products/218733/polish_megatest.html

And here are the 2007 Polish Product of the year awards, hugely different, very suprised, but I'll go with the 2007 stuff me thinks, it's more widely available: http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/products/product_honours_2007/208589/polish.html

Also, if your interested, here is the 2007 Upholstery Cleaner product of the year awards too: http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/products/product_honours_2007/208589/polish.html

I use Nad's. It keeps my bikini area nice and smooth for weeks and leaves the skin feeling...

Oh, you meant car wax! :duh:

Sorry. I just couldn't pass that one up.

That's where the thread train derailed.
That's where the thread train went off the bridge after derailing.

The Turtle Wax Ice had a big ad campaign a while ago, TV and magasine. I'm not sure what they're doing now about it.

Auto Glym Super Resin (the stuff in the red labelled bottle, I think that's the name of it anyway)

The car is an L-Reg (so 1994?) and always shines nice when I use that stuff so I've never seen fit to change :)
