whilst saving for my new rig, i was sure I was gonna get a pioneer slot load drive, simply cos there cool I had DEFINATELY found them on dabs.com not too long ago, but they have since... dissapeared... now they were only £20 so that would have been great... but I guess I want gonna get one there... so i hit the search engines, googled for any slot load drives and found 1 website sellin em, micro direct. I click the link and get to a page saying this item has been discontinued... WTF!?! whats goin on here??? is it just me or have they stopped selling them... please feel free to prove me wrong, in fact id thank you for doing so anyone got one goin spare theyd like to sell to me
I've got a pioneer 120s, i got it from ocuk a few months ago, but kustompcs still has them. http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/Kustom_PCs_Shop_DVD_ROM_Drives_32.html damn, just noticed theyre out of stock, try mailing them to see if/when theyre coming back in.
The last slot load drive to come out was the 120S. It is a discontinued item IIRC and i have no clue why.
The slot drives had a few issues reading CD's after a few months use, although the DVD reading was never effected.
Mine is two years old now. Some CDs can be read by my cd writer but not by the slot drive. It now usually makes a funny noise afew times when a disc is inserted then spits it back out. I insert the disc again and it is fine. 99% of DVDs read fine although one DVD-R data disc could not read a file, but it could be read on a different dvd drive (2 copies of the disc were made and the problem happened with both). Nice idea, shame about the problems.
The old 106s used todo this but ive found the newer 120s dont. The 106s had a much much nicer loading mechanism than the 120s though I cant live without at least one slot loading drive - its so much faster when cd swapping, and two pioneer drives in my system make it look well co-ordinated
