Cast pewter-'pooter parts: The last frontier of case modding. There's probably an untapped market for mass-produced steampunk and gothic fangrills.
If you can get that kind of detail, Yes. Since you have to carve it into the wax, I would have tried some kind of non-mechanical wave pattern or something.
*Grabs popcorn and pours some of that lemonade* You could probably trade in that silver quarter for twice it's weight in silver. I think silver quarters are worth about $20 to coin collectors.
...aand update. Father's day came and passed, and look what it brought... Toys, toys. Right now a finished blank is setting up in investment. Tomorrow night I'll burn it out and try melting the silver. Till then...
i gotta find the link and will post it when i find it. on another site there was a full silver milled wb. anyway i'll dig it up and post.
Are you sure that propane torch will melt the silver? I think it takes 800-1000 degrees to melt silver.... You might have better luck with Mapp gas (it's in a yellow tank, still made by bernzomatic)
I thought that copper was actually better at conducting heat than anything but very pure silver. Better than 925 silver for instance
I thought propane could burn at something silly like 1500-2000C (I am pretty sure it was on king of the hill, and I trust cartoons more than I trust myself). Though getting it to burn that hot from a small torch in another matter I suppose. Though admittedly I have no idea about that sort of thing. I mean would it burn at its peak temp regardless of the amount on offer, or does the temperature reached go up when more of the stuff is on tap?
Wax burn out went beautifully, the silver not so well. Not quite hot enough, gonna pick up MAPP soon and try again. Some melted, a little flowed, but mostly it shrank up and that was it.
Apparently you can get it to 1990°C with just oxygen and higher if you use different oxidants like N2O4. http://www.propanecarbs.com/propane.html (look on chart)
