I'd Recomend a corsa for a first car or the fiesta they tend to have good handling...or so i've been told.

    Damn right.

They're small, light, handle well, have cheap insurance, and go like the ****ing clappers once derestricted.

Mine's a 1.3 automatic, due for a full restoration and race tuning when I get the time and money. Not sure what to do to it yet though...

the cars you mentioned are very cloustraphobic IMO so i went for something bigger like the punto. (wanted a clio (new shape but couldent afford it in the end) ) the punto and the clio are big small cars. where as the fiesta and the 106/saxo are all small small cars. and to me are very confined (im 6ft)

    i payed £2100 for my punto 1998 (s reg) black 1.2

only thing i will say tho is if you been driving new cars all the time they will mostly be hydraluic clutches so the older cars will feel very snappy and not as fluid.

the only thing i dotn like about my punto is that the cornering goes to pot in wet. a corner thats safe to take at 30 is just about safe at 20 in the wet. ( prolly cos i need some new tyres. 6 montsh time and they will be dead and ready for new ones.)

the punto tends to roll at speed

but i love the car it feels to me like a go cart the way it throws its self into corners (unless its wet) then it slides into them)

note if you do go for a punto the rocker gascet leaks 99% of the time i had mine replaced before i picked it up that was at 35000 miles.

and i get 280 ish miles to 47 liters of petrol (the way i drive i tend to open throttle and change gear late 5-6000 RPM dependant on if the mood takes me now im on the last 7 liters of fuel i wont open the throttle more then half till i goto the station tmoz.

If your legs are long then i would love to see you in a 106, 306 they have shocking leg room with the seat all the way back. i couldnt fit in either and im ~6'2" but my legs are really long. Ive got a suziki swift 1L (gls) cost £2000 (Y) and its quite nice, but i have the seat all the way back and my knees still touch the stearing wheel.

Ps fiesta's and pugs are quite expensive as they are soughtafter for a 1st car, so unless its an old fiesta i doubt you will find a newish one for your money.

the leg room wasnt the problem for me as such. it was more of the space inside was to squashed up. and all the controls werent evanly spaced over the dash they seemed to be crammed as close to teh driver as possible. (prolly cos im used to the huge dash of the focus.

Indeed they are, sold mine (K reg) which had no mot, damage to the door due to a break in and something up with the travel of the front wheel (due to the thieves hammering it into a curb :grr: ) for £150!

They're not cheap on the insurance as the billy boys want them for parts...

Having said that I loved it :)
