My payment card has this weird logo on it, which says "Maestro". The logo is exactly like the MasterCard logo. So, what's Maestro? Can I use the card to pay stuff on the web when there is a MasterCard possibility? (Can't get Visa before I'm 18) :( Or is it just a spanish "pirate card"? :eyebrow:

Do you actually have a mastercard logo?

If not, you sure its not your countries version

Here's the original mastercard logo. See how similar it is? (And no, Maestro is not my country's version)

Btw, I checked http://www.mastercard.no and found out that Maestro is something similar to mastercard, and can be used to pay internationally. It's not exactly like mastercard, though. :sigh:

MDK, the card doesn't have those punched in numbers, only numbers on the back.

thats no fun if you've not got the raised silver letter, maybe the ratio of blind to seeing is less in your country hence no raised letters. [just a thought]

Ok, that makes sense, as they might not give out credit cards to people under 18.

There's also Cirrus, same rounded logo but it's dark blue on the left and light blue on the right.

Cards have raised letters so that they can be used with the old-style cheque printer things where you put the card on the flatbed, the paper on top then pull the roller across.

At least that's what I always thought they were there for.

Just to reitterate what other folks have said - the Maestro will not enable you to order over the internet as if it were a Master Card, but it does offer you the facility to use a range of ATMs/Cash dispensers the world over pretty easily. No problems at all here using a UK Maestro in Holland, France, Malaysia and Australia.
