Hey All, Got this weird setup where my mate has a large 8 way multi-room display setup with some arse backwards cabling, He has used cable tv RF/coax like this: All the cable was laid before the walls were finished, so there is no going back for him, He's got to work with what's there. Setup is like this: He has got a decent scaler/line doubler that will take RCA Phono/SVHS/Comp inputs and convert to SVGA for the final leg to the projector. So, I need to get the RF signal converted to something that the scaler inputs can understand., Also split the audio from the RF signal and into the PA system (not on diagram). Anyone know what I should be looking for where that big red question mark is in the diagram? Cheers
I had tried that unsuccessfully, Took ages to find someone with VCR, everyone gave me that strange "you never heard of DVD's" look. I ended up with a cobweb ridden "Ferguson" that made a strange noise when it was powered up, Single scart socket. The batteries were acidly welded to the remote, lol. Might need to try and find a better VCR with more I/O options Something with scart ouputs would work (RCA Video/Audio LR adapter), Would an analogue or digital set top box work? They seem to be plentiful and cheap. I told him the best way would have been to call me before that cowboy installed the 90's cable job but oh well. All them HD TV's running the shittest possible signal is a waste IMO. I would have suggested a better Satellite box with HDMI output over cat6/matrix and HDMI receivers.
A set-top box usually modulates the other way (scart to RF). I'm assuming they didn't put the RF cable in ducting so you could use it as a pull-through?
You know the problem. The solution is to get rid of said arse backwards cabling. Options: 1. Replace cable 2. Run new cables 3. Go with something wireless. Trying to route everything through legacy coax is NOT a nice option.
Not had a good look, But looks like most of the ceiling has now been plastered with flush lighting etc, the RG6 are literally highing out of 3/8 holes, cowboy job like. I hear you, When I took in the situation and tried explaining the awkward solution back to him I just got a vacant stare, I rekon he just expected to have everything "plug in". The biggest nightmare was having to get the beamer setup sorted, The RG6 comes through the wall ate the DJ booth/stage, The beamer is a decent DLP one but obviously needs an analogue or digital signal. He did lay an SVGA D-sub cable from the booth to the ceiling in the center of the room where the beamer hangs. I knew I had to get an SVGA signal from whatever "converted" the RF RG6 signal, So I sorted him with a Silicon Image iScan Ultra which can handle the composite video to SVGA conversion, even improve it. The beamer will only be used for footy but feck me, talk about having to macguyver the job because some half wit set his AV up on the "cheap". **** video signal, fake stereo..rf conversion..nightmare! I keep seeing these but they look to be the opposite of what i need: Would that take the RG6/RF input and let me use the scart loop through as an oupout (scart>composite/left/right) Any ideas?
That wouldn't take the RF input. It only outputs from comp etc to scart on passthrough and modulates to RF for the TV. I'd give the VCR another try
