I used to have 2 all metal server fans mounted to a heavy chunk of metal but got lost in a billion house moves. Was loud as buggery but boy were they affective. I do have a slightly crocked psu, rad mount and a million fans though. Let's get macgyvering!

I've found that a couple of 120mm 12V fans hooked up to a benchtop power supply can be run at 28V without difficulty, and shift a lot of air. I did need to stick some Blu-tack under 'em so they didn't push themselves over, though.

Really? I've got a Scythe Slip Stream 120mm on a modded service lid on my laptop and a modded power supply with an adjustable buck currently outputting 12V... Maybe I'll up the voltage it a lil bit.

Anyway, we digress, this thread is for life-ruining moments, please stay on topic (though I wish for everyone be off topic in this case).

My employer said they'd look into having me work remotely from the US. Knowing my employer, I didn't think much of it, and I was right. They gave up on the idea after a week, but it didn't occur to them to let me know they weren't pursuing this alley any longer. They never cease to amaze me. Oh well, 3 and a half weeks to go.

Not sure if this belongs here or the awesome thread, but here goes anyway...

Got to work this morning to find that last nights "major system upgrade" has failed 100%
We can see files, but not load them or otherwise act on them. :duh:
To top it all, my failing work PC has been replaced with a shiny new Windows 10 system
with only a partial install of our required software, so I'm fighting that too! :wallbash:

Thankfully I have never had to have dealings with that particular arm of the NHS, however, I do know people who have (including my wife) and have dealt with a lot of people with a similar way of thinking (cough diabetes nurses...). The way that I imagine their brain working is a lot like a flow chart. Any response that doesn't fit the options that they are expecting throws up an interrupt error and they default to "no idea, take these pills and lose weight - NEXT!!"

The way that I work them is to start thinking the same way, try and plan out the encounter for next time, try and work out answers to each question that you think that they will ask you and answer them before they get a chance to. Last time I went for a big diabetic review I got to see the specialist who is far more human than the condescending flow-chart nurse that I have had dealings with before and we got to a point where she said "you came here with a plan, didn't you?". My response was "Given the people I have had to deal with so far, I thought that was best". I came out of that meeting with the medication that I wanted and a decent plan of what to do.

Current go to night fan is a cooler master 20cm fan on a 5V USB power pack, silent and wafts air nicely over you.

Other options include the four 80cm deltas and a 12V power source, but I'd like to sleep.

I had a couple of the 5500RPM 120x38mm Delta's a few years back. While I was waiting for a loop to bleed in a new rig, I made a snazzy little hovercraft with the mobo box, fans and tape... The mobo box still had the motherboard and all the accessories in.

I remember putting them on a TRUE in push-pull as well, that was a chilly QX6850!

So, as I suspected, I barely slept a wink last night. I predict more of the same tonight. And I have part 2 of an interview tomorrow.

If you're desperate, I've got a Fitlet on a shelf gathering dust: tiny little thing with an AMD A10-6700T APU, 64GB SSD, 4GB RAM, Ethernet out the wazoo, Wi-Fi... It's running Linux Mint, but it'd take Windows 10 if you don't mind being a little low on drive space (and, y'know, running Windows.)

This is the beast. Any use?

Schedule for the week after being "volunteered" by the wife to help tech the show she is directing this week:

    5:45am: Alarm 1. Snooze.
6:00am: Alarm 2. Creak and pop my way out of bed.
6:20am: 10 mile cycle to work.
    7:00am (ish): Working (BUSY).
3:00pm (ish): 10 mile cycle home (WARM).
3:45pm: Shower. If time permits, snack.
4:30pm: In car, fight through Cambridge traffic to get to theatre.
5:00pm (ish): Go through tech notes, make adjustments to set, touch up paintwork, get props and stuff in position. If time permits, snack.
7:30pm: Show starts, be on feet whole time, do set changes and whatnot.
10:00pm: Show ends. Gather all props and set pieces, help sound guy collect and pack mic packs, try to find wife...
11:00pm: Theatre kick out time, spend half an hour trying to drag wife away from chatting to every production member on the way to car.
    11:30pm: Get home. Eat. Hurt.
    Midnight: Bed time.

So a full week of 18 hour days yaaaaaaay.

Employment here is rubbish for me, I want to continue studying as a mature student to make myself more employable in the field I enjoy (aeronautical engineering) trying to work around it is near impossible in this city, attempting to go it alone but obviously trying to gather the small capital required is difficult. Relocating isn't possible due to my partner being in law and having to remain here to complete her work and my current employers screwing me over by closing up shop within 2 weeks. It kills me that I went from working on salary, to working 3 jobs to working one job, so now I'm searching for a suitable job to pull on £200 per week, which is buttons!

First world problem, I know .

Think I just totally f'ed a job interview.

On the positive side however I am not actively looking for a new job; I will be gutted if I don't get this job, but my current one isn't entirely terrible so it's not like I'm desperate to get away.
