Often the problem lies in the room not being perfectly square. No matter what you do it will be out from one side/corner.

It's sorted itself out now the speakers are in. Perhaps just lighting/shadow or something like that, but when they were just pencilled in, it looked well out.

Ahhh now I see what you mean.

Well it looks off because one speaker is in the corner of the room and the other's not. You eyes will be picking up on that.

Just realised it would make a lot more sense, given fully half of both chapters are identical, to have Chapters 6a and 6b of my new book just be one big Chapter 6.

Why does that ruin my life? 'cos I've only realised that four pages into a standalone Chapter 6b.

Now just hoping the editor agrees that it's a good idea - it'll make the amount of work I have to do on 6b significantly smaller.

Why, you might wonder, is an auction for a Capri in Germany ruining my life.

Because it's low-buck (assuming the reserve isn't absurd), it's nothing special, it's already black, and it's about 45-60 minutes from where I'm going to live. If it was six months in the future, it'd be perfect.

    (Not life-ruining, but bloody irritating.)

DPD. Why can't I collect my parcel from the depot any more? The depot is a 5 minute drive from my house and to get it sent to the closest "parcel shop" means waiting until tomorrow evening before I can pick it up. I've collected dozens of parcels from this depot yet the option to do so has now vanished from their site. The icing on this turd cake is that I've been waiting over 30 minutes to get through to their call centre now - I got through after about 20 minutes only to be put on hold then disconnected. Top tip: cutting customers off, or shunting them back into the queue, doesn't reduce overall call volumes because people will simply call you again - except this time they'll be p***ed off about having to wait twice as long.

DPD used to be one of the best couriers but they've totally gone to rat-s**t lately.

UK couriers are balls atm full stop. Here's a good one, last year I had this sent with Parcel2Go, well, a much more recent model.[IMG] A La Marzocco Linea weighing in at roughly 65 kilos. Item marked as picked up, seller confirmed it was picked up also. Lost it. I am STILL trying to get compensation for the £2,400 I lost, getting there I guess.

Then MyHermes (of course) managed to do exactly the same thing with a specialized mountain bike I had with them, picked up, tracked, disappeared. Not to mention that one time MyHermes left an iPhone under my doormat in the rain.

Parcel2Go have gone right ****, too. I had an absolute pig getting compensation out of them for a completely ****ed item. They had me send it to them, then decided they'd be willing to pay half its value and keep it. Took about three weeks to get straightened out.

The previous time, they refunded everything and paid the full insurance payout. I guess they have to curb scams - But when they have the item, and they still offer half the value? Pah. Shady.

All this is why I usually have stuff delivered to my workplace (with their permission of course).

Couriers really don't want to piss off multinational businesses.

The kind where I accidentally booted said full wine glass and beer glass next to it across the floor immediately after I had finished cleaning up.

Dettol wipes because there was still a Chablis/IPA funk left behind even after I cleaned it up.

Over an hour waiting on the phone to be told that the reason I couldn't select depot collection was because the driver hadn't got back yet... Would be nice to have had a note on the website to say that...

I get to the depot 30 minutes before they close and there were 4 people ahead of me; one had been there 45 minutes, another 30 minutes, a third 20 minutes... so on... Not one of them had even spoken to a member of staff, let alone collected parcels, despite needing to be buzzed in to the secured car park.

It's not really a huge deal since I can get it re-delivered tomorrow to a store in town centre, but what a f****** palaver for what should have been a simple process. Utterly atrocious service all round from DPD.

£2400 worth of kit lost?! I'd be spitting blood! That's ridiculous, I hope you get it sorted!

Ordinarily I would do that, but this is too large to carry in the meagre storage box in my motorbike.

For me 57 seconds is the record for me between 'thank you for your application' and 'sorry you're not what we're looking for' emails...
