Well they haven't arrived today, with the postman so spoke to Royal Mail and they advised it can take up to 30 day's before they would look in to it and to get the barcodes of the seller from the receipt from postage and then they can look at where they are.

I'm on week 2 of doing pretty much nothing but CSS. I think I've discovered a new state of coding and sleeping at the same time

Well, best of the also-rans is better than ignominious failure, like the last time.

In 2022 I think I should consider shooting the TV and screwing in wooden earplugs for the duration.

Would something like SASS or LESS make your life easier at all?

Not really. I just find CSS really boring to do. I'd much rather be trying to solve a problem to something in python that requires me to think instead of "hmmm, i wonder if this is 5px off the design"

CSS is tedious... SASS/LESS [for me at least] makes it marginally less tedious by ensuring i don't have to do as much of it... even if it's only using variables do i don;t have to type in the same effing hex code a gazillion times.

There is also, iirc, an equivalent for JavaScript called CoffeeScript

Currently trying to minimise the amount of frameworks we use as previously it got a bit out of hand and is now slowing us down. Thankfully the colours are pretty simple. It's just the positioning of stuff i hate doing. In line with this thread. Just had to do 4 commits to change 8 lines of code because SEO is a pain to do correctly.

Finally started the learn the new job is was "offered" 15 months ago, Seafood importing, what a minefield of information!
Too old to be learning, especially off someone who has become rather bitter about the company.

I wouldn't worry, Qatar is going to be a nightmare for the european sides.

Doubt many will last unless the get a shed load of climate training in beforehand i.e. in a big frickin oven.

Foaming at the mouth trying to get a steelseries rival mouse to work, could easily just go and buy another one but it's the principal of the matter.

It just hop skips and jumps all over the screen, had it apart and cleaned it. Drivers un-installed and re-installed.

And the best part is this issue appeared overnight. Amazed at the **** that is sold today.

SASS/LESS are definitely not 'frameworks'. They are declarative languages in their own right that transpile to CSS

That saidm SASS/Less, and tools like Grunt/Gulp are probably best utilised when starting a project from scratch, setting an existing project up to make use of them will probably take more time than the tools save.

Ahh yes. I should of been clearer on that. I essentially want our process as vanilla as possible. We had a previous employee that didn't follow this and decided to import every JS library under the sun when developing stuff which has made working on things a giant pain. He also used whatever coding pattern he had heard about from hackernews that week and when he needed to fix it then rewrote the whole thing because he didn't have an understanding of the way he coded it. It's why some of the cool features I wan't to implement here are delayed. He also used full res images in our image/thumbnail generator which is why the home page used to be 4 times as large as it is now. This list could go on.
I've heard of Grunt/Gulp but never actually looked into them. I might have to.

In bad news. It's 30.1C in my summerhouse :(

Booked a parcel collection through IPostParcels yesterday, for collection today and delivery tomorrow. Used 'em before, no problem. Got a text at 1515: "Our driver attempted to collect your parcel."

No, he didn't. I was staring out of the window at the time. No knock, no ring, no "sorry we missed you" card, gate still closed, no sign of a van on the road. Called UK Mail, the actual courier, and they tried to get in touch with him: no answer on his mobile, can't send a message to his scanner. The bugger had quite clearly decided to sack the afternoon off and just tell everyone he'd tried.

Got in touch with IPostParcels, saying I ain't happy that a "next day" delivery booked for collection on Thursday would now not get there until Monday. "Sorry for the inconvenience, I've authorised a 10% refund."

No. I'll take a full refund, please and thank you, and put you guys on the No-No List.

Guess I'm schlepping to the Post Office tomorrow, then. Ah, well, at least I'll get some fresh air...

Was supposed to send a very urgent e-mail today but Thunderbird ****ed up and generated some error message instead behind all other windows. So I'm fully convinced the e-mail's been sent only to notice hours later, purely by coincidence, that it actually hasn't.

    Grrreat.

This has been an extraordinarily tough week for the road racing community, I got the news some time ago via a text message from my club. Another funeral I'm going to be making an effort to attend, another stellar guy, James Cowton.

I'm beyond praying at this stage that Ivan Lintin makes it through his critical stage.

Cyberark, when trying to connect to an RDP session its now being seen as a virus. So, well, I cant do any work, an I'm being moaned at by the management for an issue the cyber security team have created.

What does this actually do. I can't get past the buzzword bingo management likely forced the devs to implement on the site.

It stores passwords and automatically changes them. It can script logon process to RDP and SSH and others without ever actually exposing a password to the user.

Except with ours if your password expires mid session it times out said sessions (its not meant to) then when you update you password via windows or what ever means you like it wont allow you to as its not syncd to the LDAP but the servers are so you get lock out spam.
Turns out the virus issue was an update not strictly Cyberark but an update to EPM basically meant windows saw and RDP sessions as a virus. YAY! Oh an to reset my password I have to RDP to another device circumventing cyberark which isn't allowed apparently
