That sucks, I had a seed box at home (laptop) but the fan broke and I can't fix it because I'm 4 hours away from home.


No games would suck even more

 

Today was my second day on sick leave and still have a fever and am congested. This weekend will be a three day weekend, so I am pretty much forced to go in to work tomorrow to avoid having six straight days off and a) looking like I was faking it for a long vacation or b) having massive amounts of work and letting people down by being away for long when they need my help.

At least everyone will see it isn't the former when I go in there and look like hell.

The fact I didn't get the job in google. The fact the job I have no longer covers my bills and mortgage, the fact I could not even get my wife a gift for her birthday.

Right now I am failing as a husband and a provider.

 

RK - I know the feeling. I just had a shouting-fight with senior managers who claim I don't do my work. It left one of them in tears, the rest seriously shocked, and saying "Well... I think we need to all sit down and address the situation."



I essentially told them that if 10-11 hours a day aren't good enough and they expect more than 2-3 hours overtime from me every day of the year, they can go f*ck themselves, and I'd quit within 24 hours (rather than the contractual 3 months).
When they replied that they'd take me to court over it, I told them that the Labour law a) Favours employees, and b) has a clause in it about overtime and reasonable expectation, as well as one about cancelling leave without solid reason, and that in case of a contractual dispute vs unlawful conduct, I'd win.

I did also mention that I am severley underpaid and that non-management developers make 30% more than me elsewhere.

 

No one where I work has gotten a raise in over 2 years. Well except the boss and his daughter and wife who also work there. They all drive brand new vehicles.

Yesterday we had a steak dinner at work because of thanksgiving. Then the boss goes on to say how our profits are way up over last year so he thought we earned the dinner.

IDGAF about a steak dinner. How about quit being a greedy bugger and give everyone a raise. Especially since minimum wage went up $0.50 this year and around $2 in the past 2 years! He puts up these papers on the bulletin board in the lunch room that say how to be competitive in the market we must do whats good for the company and not work any overtime, and our breaks are supposed to be super strict. 15min from when you leave your work area to when you are working again. Oh please! that is BS!!

How about trying to reward your employees with a raise or bonus or something?! Maybe then you will have employees that put some effort in. Because right now no one gives a crap. Maybe some people might think its bad work ethic but if no ones sees any opportunity to move up in the company or get a raise, WHY put any effort in at all? Just so the company can make more money that we will never see? Totally ridiculous IMO. My term ends in May, so hopefully things turn around and they offer me a long term position or I will go elsewhere.



Also trying to make things work with a girl whom I have an extreme amount of interest in (even just as friends, but preferably more) is just giving me a headache. kill me??

My brother bought a iMac 27" C2D, and my mom, beeing in love the moment she saw the goddamn thing, bought a MBP 17". Now they both are in some fanboy sphere raving about how quiet they are and how big the resolution is and how great the OS is compared to mine. Omg, gimme a break, would you?

If I'd buy a Mac all I'd do would be whining about missing mouse buttons, low frame rates, missing CPU power and missing software. I do not care about a few cables more. Thus I don't buy one. Why is no apple fanboi able to get that into his head?

 

Point them to here, stand back, and let out a cry of "I'm sorry? I can't hear you over the sound of how awesome I am!"

Then play a game on your PC. Just for kicks. Something you have on Steam. With the option for Mac. Then ask them if they'd like to play.

"No, no, not on here. On your quiet unibody toy computer!"

There will be tears.

Are they actually putting Windows PCs down though? Or just happy with their macs compared to your particular machine? It kinda sounds to me like you are a Mac hater and they're just really happy with their new computers.

It really bugs me that people can't just admit that both Macs and Windows machines have their different advantages and that Macs are really good, well designed computers. I am getting really sick of all the arguing and snide remarks about Apple products here recently. They're not even comparable to the sort of PCs that we build and use (bespoke enthusiast grade machines). I wish people would stop trying to.

 

That really doesn't stop mac users from saying that their machines are better than "ours"....

but ontopic-

I had a 6 day weekend for columbus day (I go to school Tuesday Wednesday, and Thursday), so I was supposed to have Friday - Wednesday off (monday and tuesday for columbus day, Wednesday for a "Monday make-up day"), but now instead of my beautiful 6 days of money making and relaxation, I have to go in for a mid-term on Wednesday because night classes are exempt from the monday make-up day

Taxi drivers. Driving up my chuff, full beams on. Parking at traffic lights and blocking all the traffic (it's common courtesy to have hazards flashing if you're waiting, so we know not to wait for you to move...)

Wish I'd had a Volvo, I could have used the big black bumpers to push that last twunt out of the way. Grrrrrr.

 

They are putting down Windows PCs in general and my machine in particular. See, I don't hate macs. The MBP is probably the best laptop one can get. They are great if surfing the net or editing pictures is your kind of thing. Of course they are happy with their machines - they should be considering the amoung of money spent. However I don't see how that would ever justify coming to me and telling me I should buy one and how crap my machine is when in fact for what I am doing it is better.

Sure a 27" iMac is great, the resolution is awesome. But for me it would not be a good choice. I don't even want to think about having to game or do anything 3D modelling related on one. Saying that I'm a mac hater just because I don't want one and don't want to hear someone telling me how I should buy one is a bit far fetched I think.

tl;dr: I don't hate macs, I hate fanboys I can't avoid.
