Trying to explain crypto currencies, and the underlying blockchain technology, to my mother-in-law... Who doesn't even fully understand how credit cards work (given that she keeps trying to use them as a point of comparison).

They did it to me again!

They contacted me two weeks ago, to tell me a slot was available and I placed an order right then. I got in touch yesterday for a progress update and find out it's been cancelled. Again. Two days after the order was placed. AGAIN!

Of course, the spare slot on the exchange cabinet has been snapped up by someone else in the mean time, natch.

Same old "sorry but there's nothing we can do" from the policy drone I spoke to, so I escalated it and finally got a manager to call me back today. Apparently, when I first got fibre at my old address, they had created a second, semi complete order that's been sitting on my account ever since. Any future orders were viewed by the system as duplicates and automagically cancelled.

Because it's an automatic process, it doesn't update the work order which should simply expire after x time, so no notification is given.

The good news is my next order won't be auto-cancelled.

The bad news is I have no idea how long I'll have to wait before another slot becomes available. :wallbash:

I broke one pin, and felt it best to box it and leave it, and cry, and sulk...

I'm probably going to sell it, as damaged, on ebay, Someone bold, brave and mad will want it :thumb:

    Users....

Me: Can you log out the laptop for me
    User: sure *shuts down laptop*
Me: I cant see the laptop on the network did you shut it down?
    User: I pressed log off
    Me: did you turn it?
User: No I closed it though

    ARGH!

User: why cant you unlock my account (windows domain account) when I'm at home
Me: You need to be connected to the network for it to update they I have unlocked the account.
User: I am connected, I'm on the BBC website
Me: No, you need to be connected to our network as it wont update until then, the BBC website is not part of our network.
    (argument continues)

User: I'd like a new laptop
Me: OK is there a problem with your current one?
User: Yes its not the new one my colleague has
Me: OK, is yours causing you problems?
User: No I just like the look of the MacBooks
Me: Unfortunately you'd need a business reason to be migrated to an Apple device
User: I don't think your being very helpful, I'll speak to my manager.

    WHY!!!!!

Calls are recorded, another example of the level of stupid here.

Morons who cannot setup GP properly, they managed to remove an internal pages from the list of trusted sites. I managed to change GP on one machine as a proof of concept. They now say its going to be a change request. The site worked fine till last week when they changed the GP to block SSO and referral links from the site by removing it from the trusted sites list.
Oh an I got in trouble for daring to amend group policy and placing the company at risk, I hardly think a link to an intranet page about office supplies is a risk but well...

    Sam, what a pain .
You started me on a new game; hunting the snapped off pin, 'Where's Wally?' style.
Now trying to see what that pin is (AY4?) and what it does.
I've done a little minor pin straightening, when I only had 1 RAM slot working, and it was heart in mouth...
See what the revered TMDD says and take it from there.
I'd be interested in it as a hospital job and would pay you what you feel's fair for it to save you from the horrors of ebay.
The car is OK, for the moment - maybe a run up the M27 might be in order.

It's 2nd from bottom most right, if that makes sense. It wont post at all if the dimm slot is occupied, but is fine with just the other.

Thanks Sam, I just looked online at this chart and if it's AY4, that's VSS (ground), but the one above controls RAM by the look of it...
You seem to have one diagonally below to the left that may be touching another pin, which may cause trouble.
A missing VSS is supposedly not a problem as they are so redundant, but a problematic signal pin will screw things up.

    Sheesh. That sucks!

So that area of the CPU is predominately memory, which means it may not work. The other ones are still in tact which means they’re easy enough to bend back with a little bit of TLC.

The one that’s missing may or may not cause the board to fail to boot, or fail to use one of two memory channels.

I have a few Z87/Z97 boards floating around, so I’ll isolate that pin and see what negative (if any) effects occur.

I’ll get back to you when I’ve got info. :)

It may not be until tomorrow. I’ve got my father in law staying with us in my office as he’s recovering from a double bypass.

Nice work B, it looked memoryish to me.
Sam says it won't boot with one of the 2 slots populated...
GLW FiL - poor fella; glad they could operate and sort things

    Bad news, I'm afraid...

I taped off the pin that you've lost, and tested it... the tape moved when I took it out of the socket, but it was covering the correct pin.

You will lose the first (in your case, first two for my M6H) DIMM closest to the socket, which is the second channel. There's no fixing that unless you're incredible with a soldering iron or wish to send it to get a replacement socket put on.

Sorry to be the bad news bearer, but now you know... :(

If you can live without it, you can still get by with one stick... though you'll be at an obvious disadvantage.

First time I've played this game, so interested to see how it panned out.
Impressive work B, taping a pin to knock it out; as you say a single 8 or 16 GB stick would make it quite suitable for a number of applications still.
Sorry to hear that, Sam - my minimal investigation seemed to show damage in the memory area.
There's a few other pins to straighten to by the look of it

Your initial diagnosis was correct, Tre. :)

A happy belated birthday, by the way. I totally missed that! Sorry, fella!!

I don’t think I have any ITX boards laying around anymore, the only one I had was a VIII Impact that I can safely recall selling.
