But what if I don't install Windows updates?

And my work Lenovo laptop doesn't even have an SSD. I didn't even know they still made business laptops without them... thanks, IT service provider. :sigh:

Ours dont, mainly because they still insist on users having roaming profiles so they log in, it downloads, they log out, it uploads. The network cannot cope with upwards of 5K people all logging in and out about the same time.

The company that I work for requires that we restart our PCs at the end of the day and leave them running overnight for updates and stuff. The problem is that they have just made so much of a mess of removing all admin rights from general user's accounts and PCs that updates now require a member of the IT department (bearing in mind that we have 2 on site staff that occasionally get shared with other sites both here in the UK and, in rare cases overseas) to come around, log us out and log themselves in with their admin enabled account in order to install the updates that couldn't be done automatically as there is no admin enabled account associated with the PC anymore....

Can you not just use something like Bigfix and automate it? We had the fun of Win7 KB4343205 stopping PDF files loading from redirected sites. put the roll back on big fix, poof sorted overnight for every desktop.

If it's any consolation - I'm moving about eight hundred miles west in two weeks.

    ..Near Munich.

Ahem. East. I blame scotch. I'm trying to reduce the volume of alcohol for transport, you see, and.. Drinking it is the best option...

    Perhaps.

Deportation seems a touch extreme, I was content merely to ban you from the North.

Best of luck in the Germanland, go to the Mercedes museum in Stuttgart, it's amazeballs.

Not yet mate, for various reasons I probably won’t for another fortnight yet! Lot of travelling last week and next two.

I might test them via a USB dock directly.

Tbf most pork pies are utter garbage, what with pastry that you can break teeth on and a stingy amounts of filling that wasn't so much cooked with care as embalmed with indifference. A good pork pie is magnificent as it is rare.

Pickle has its place... in a pork pie is most definitely not it.

    Cornish pasties Cheesecake.

Back on topic: apparently my Devolo powerline adapters are having an adverse effect on my DSL connection. At least that's what my FritzBox says. Bloody hell, how does that even work? And how would a powerline adapter even cause a DSL connection to get broken every 2-3 hours?
