Sort of a similar case here.

Just went through a class where I completely failed to even attempt the assigned paper which was due today. I'm used to taking AP Literature/Composition classes in high school where high quality is expected from every bit of work, and I also enjoy trying to better myself by being active in discussions (such as the serious section here with the many sharp minds present to learn from). So when I hit general education classes I can't understand that when my professor says a "7 page essay" is due that he doesn't expect the kind of quality I am used to. I've looked at papers of classmates which have recieved amazing scores that were (I don't mean to sound like an ass, but it can't be helped) absolutely terrible. Double spaced in 14 point font? One and a half space is enough for a reviewer to write comments in if needed. 12 point is easy enough to read and looks far more professional. The content was dire as well. The first three pages were paraphrasing sources and consisted of roughly 50% randomly chosen quotes and 50% random BS to vaguely justify the quotes. The latter four was using the previously mentioned "background information" to repeatedly rephrase the same argument in slightly varying situations. A rough mental edit I was constructing while reading could easily shrink it down to four pages, maybe three if I sat down and worked on it.

Meanwhile, I'm sitting at home panicing because I think I've just been assigned a massive product that will take hours upon hours of research and various drafts and edits to create a worthy final product. Might still be enough points to salvage the class with the next two papers, but we'll see. The burden of knowing that I must recieve great scores on them to pass will probably scare all the motivation out of me again, even though part of me knows I could just turn out some trash on the night before and have it work.

Yeah, that makes me sound like a total jerk who doesn't do his work because it's too easy for him, but in some regards that's true. In my other class this quarter I just about gave someone a public tongue lashing for not knowing what the equator was. That is the intellectual level of these general education classes. It's degrading. I feel absolutely no motivation because it's just too easy. The only thing saving me is my actual interest in geography... and I like the attention I get for knowing everything already.

That's easy to say but everywhere in the world there are uneducated people. My parents are very good people but they have no idea about anything regarding geography

At first I would take that as a serious comment and completely agree with you!

After taking a "pop quiz" in which I had to describe why Reno, Nevada is 39°N, 119°W and not 39°N, 119°E (correct answer, it's west of the prime meridian) I decided that I am completely justified in saying that the class is below me. :D

A little backstory as to why I was proper pissed and not merely surprised: I happen to know the girl who said it from high school. I know that someone graduating in that district must have taken and passed various classes which explicitly explain what the equator is, and provide basic knowledge of many other geographical concepts.

And you're above me as well. I love geography but it's been 9 years since my last class, and it wasn't very advanced.

I have a wonderful class.... Database Management Concepts, aka "advanced" Microsoft office. It is a required course for CIS (Computer Information Systems), INM (Information Management (CIS but with different courses to help out with transferring to a 4 year school) and Buisiness majors.... I'm in a class taught by an angry (and slightly racist) IBM project manager who is an adjunct professor at my school. The class is so horribly basic that I end up playing Minecraft the whole time. I have plenty of time as the Business majors don't understand how to form simple Excel formulas. Now, I could forgive this if it was an intro course, but they have already taken that course, this is the second course in the series.

But as to what is ruining my life, tomorrow in class we have a group assignment. My professor has decided that he is going to mix up the skill levels, which means that I am going to be stuck with 4 business majors... and not the ones who "get" it. Usually I'm out of class at least an hour early, but I have a feeling I'm going to be there strait until 10 PM tomorrow, meaning that I can't pick up Fallout New Vegas before the mall closes.....

Dude, that sucks man, losing a dog.

As for my story, well realized that perhaps my target is a bit too immature, but still consumed by it.
