No, we have a smaller scale in the kitchen, which isn't ideal for weighing large boxes, and I zero them every time I use them. I compared a can of coke and a bag of sugar and there is definitely a small difference between them - only a few grammes but it's there.

They're in the bin now, I'm far too annoyed with them to keep using them.

I got my hp 32" from JL. Arrived damaged. Sent a new one next day and collected the broken one.

    So yeah, brilliant service.

The packaging was absolutely immaculate, absolutely no outward signs of damage.

Hopefully all will be well, it's just really gutting!

Yeah it's a right royal pain, thankfully it was a JL purchase though - they'll see you right.

Snowballing debt... not in the sense of debt out of control but last month I cleared three big debts which equates to £350 back in my pocket.

Got paid on Friday so now those funds are surplus so to speak, I always have enough to live on once the bills are covered so that money by all means is mine.

Would love to spend some on nice shiny things, some ryzen gear perhaps... maybe a flashy set of wireless headphones. trade in that 34 for the much sought after 49? We’ve also been chatting a lot about replacing our old Panasonic Viera plasma for a 65” as well when the sofas get replaced...

But the reality is it’s all been snowballed onto the next priority debt which happens to be my car... every penny closer to debt freedom. So easy to get wrapped up in the pursuit of materialistic possessions, not a huge fan of this adulting malarkey but I’m sure it’ll all be worth it in the end.

I'm on exactly the same path at the moment and yeah, it is worth it in the long run. I know I just splurged on a new TV and a pile of upgrades, but the boring mundane 'look at me being a functional adult' part that I don't tend to post online is that I also used a good chunk of that bonus to pay off another debt. The next one will be a loan that has about two years left to run, thanks to everything we've paid off so far we're on track to pay that off in about three to four months (possibly sooner if some... plans... pan out).

It felt like a very long road when we started but the 'debt snowball' approach really is starting to pay off. All the smaller debts are now out of the way so we can start on the big ones. But now we've freed up so much money every month that I can actually see the light at the end of the tunnel, it doesn't feel like I will always be paying off one debt or another...

It's hard to sacrifice now in favour of a more long-term payoff, but that long-term payoff will be more than worth it.

My dad has just royally done my head in.

We have the 1Gb connection from Virgin and the Superhub is downstairs.

There is a cable that goes from it out the wall, up the outside wall and then in to my bedroom and normally I get the full speed both download and upload.

A few weeks ago I noticed I was getting a few issues relating to the network, so I checked everything and bitched and moaned but just got on with it.

Today the issues got so bad that I was trying to upload a video to YouTube and was getting less than 1Mpb/s upload speed.

After much swearing, ripping pc's apart, plugging in Wireless etc etc my lovely Dad said "Why don't I go and reboot the hub?" I said yeah go do that!

It rebooted and hey presto full speed, video uploading at 52Mbp/s.

I go downstairs and he says "I unplugged your connection from this switch and plugged you in to the back of the Superhub" so you should be fine now.

I look at the switch I was plugged in to and to my shock it was an old 100Mbp/s switch, I really could have slapped him!

My grandfather is dying. I'm not ready for this. It could be anytime.

While I don't know your Grandfathers condition or claim to understand your relationship with him I can say like many who can relate, the waiting for that inevitable moment is never easy. I recently loss my Grandfather who reached the ripe old age of 94. He lived a long life but dearly missed my Grandmother who passed some 14 years earlier. I hope you're not alone and have close support nearby.

Do not go gentle into that good night,
    Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

    See the other thread....

My fiancée's gran is still in hospital with a possible stroke. Still nobody knows what happened exactly, not even if it was a stroke or not. But, understandably, her own daughter (my usually likeable mother-in-law) is in panic mode. Since gran's supposed to be released from hospital on Saturday (with diagnosis or without) I'm offering help left right and centre, having been there countless times since 2002 due to the cancer of my father (lost him in 03) and subsequent five (yes, ****ing FIVE!) brain tumors my mother had to endure (lost her in 19). This is eating me, I really don't know how to be supportive to my mother-in-law when she's going 'yes, sure, yes, you're right' and then doing what's wrong every single time. I KNOW what to do exactly, FFS!

    Anyway, back to the bottle.

Well it's that day. He peacefully passed on in his sleep today at the age of 93 1/2. Date: May 15, 1927 - February 2, 2021

Rest in Peace, Grampa. We will meet again.

I'm sorry for your loss, it is hard to be prepared however ready you might feel. I am glad to hear he slipped away peacefully, that is some consolation.
I lost the last of my grandparents 26 years ago, and they are all still with me in my memories.

    RIP

Sorry for your loss, but as Arboreal said, there is some consolation in the fact he went peacefully. They won't leave you, ever.

500 steps or more. 108 of them with a 40 kilo box. Lots of housework, including a full wash and tumble. "Don't worry, we have that lovely Tesco Extra Special beef brisket for dinner !".

Yeah that looks special alright. More like a yelper special. I can't lie it tasted fantastic, but it felt like I was dissecting a human turd to see what was inside. Hardly apetising.

You're right, it does look a little bit like an 'accident'.

Looks like I have to go back to walking using a KAFO. And paying attention to what I kick. Those things are damn expensive.

    RIP, Sorry for your loss.

Currently enjoying the wonders of "PC's being PC's" right now.

My wife's machine works exactly as expected performance wise but when it comes to USB it seems to be possessed. Her existing mouse only works on one of the front USB 3.0 ports and none of the back ones (??) whilst her keyboard and our external backup drive works in all of them (suggesting the ports are fine). A random USB WIFI/Bluetooth adaptor works in two of the rear ports and partially works in one of the front USB 3/0 ports but won't connect to anything in the latter (works as in Windows recognises it).

Most likely a reason but I hate when things are seemingly random and not consistent.
