To be fair, I only know because the company I work for does EVERYTHING in Excel, forcing me to keep up to date so my life is easier.

Oh how I dream of a proper database! I've managed to snatch some stuff out of Excel's grasp but it's not enough!

Agreed. Excel has its place, just maybe not as many places as it currently holds :hehe:

Excel is not a database you say? Are you sure? :p:

The primary trick with Excel vs Access (spreadsheet vs database) is knowing when to use which...
The secondary trick is persuading users to move away from that monolithic macro-riddled, query-driven, pivot-fest of a spreadsheet...
The tertiary trick is persuading the business that the "cost" of setting up a database is better value...

/thus speaketh the owner and originator of many a spreadsheet of doom (tm) and access databases...

You know there is an awful lot of people who say Access is not a database too.
Though I must admit I'm not sure why, I've never had to use it all ours is SQL.

Probably because its not solely a database, as it has the tools to create "forms" etc.

My logic for data capture goes (simple to complex): Word -> Excel -> Access -> "proper" db e.g. mySQL..

That would probably make sense. It just seems every time I go on a course for something there will be an old guy at the back whinging about it. With the exception of the SSRS (SQL Server Reporting Services) course I went on where it was the instructor who had a little rant about Access.
    And SSRS.
    And SQL.
    And Microsoft products in general.
    Amongst other things.

Y'all need Dataframes and matplotlib. It'll change your life, I tell ya.

In the very strictest definition of the term, Access is a relational database database management system and supports many features that other RDBMS' do. It's just not a very practical one: it doesn't have transaction logs, it's not easy to back up, concurrent users will cripple performance, etc.

Woah there, your books make it to a drawer? That's got to be a database.

I must admit, the book thing isn't me. It's someone at work, and by God I'm trying to stamp it out!

I know exactly what you're going to do - Pray the model doesn't go obsolete before you can afford another one.

I really don't need any incentive. The anxiety can't be good for me.

And that helps me how, do I go out and get the parts from a.n.other supplier so I can do the work I had planned this weekend, or do I suck it and see if they'll deliver on time?

Had a back tooth prepared for a crown. Didn't feel a thing while the dentist was grinding it down (extremely painful after the anesthetic wore off though).

I did however feel the moment when he drilled a hole in my tongue.
