That lifestyle never made sense to me, but a lot of my friends follow it. It's really not hard to just keep a reasonable bit of cash saved away at all times. If you dip into that fund then make sure your next paycheck replenishes it. If you never tap into that fund you can still live in a paycheck by paycheck style life where you spend each month's income during that month, but you'll have your safety fund still!

My financial strategy is this: every time I reach a new thousand of savings I don't go below it. Example: I get a $800 paycheck and spend $300 of it. When I get that next $800 paycheck I will have $1300. I then can't spend more than $300 because I must stay above $1000.

There are some exceptions. Regular and required bills may drop you below. Simply account for them when determining which thousand you can't drop below (if you're at $4400 and have $500 in bills then needless spending can't drop below the $3000 level, because that's what you'll be in after bills). Sometimes you'll hit $x100 and can't reasonably spend less than what you're allowed because $100 is too little. Sometimes you want something particularly expensive which is either over $1000 or is so expensive that it along with required spending still drops you below the current thousand level. These things then have to go to a mental review process which helps filter out frivolous spending.

Sadly, on this occasion, it appears that it was my fault, not that I was charging for it anyway.

My father-in-law-to-be's partner asked for a new gfx card. I convinced advised him (yes) that it would be a more efficient use of his money to grab a faster CPU and a good graphics card, as his budget was £400.

In order for his motherboard to support the QX9650 I sourced for him I had to do a BIOS upgrade. Since doing that, the motherboard has been unstable as all get-out on the QX9650.

Luckily the QX9650 I bought (on these fine forums) came with a motherboard and 4gb ram in a bundle, so I just swapped the lot out, and gave up trying to "fix" the old motherboard.

I've still got to borrow the PSU from my own PC and use it to test the old motherboard/cpu/RAM so I can work out which bits I can sell here!

That's similar to how my financial brain used to function. The circumstances are different now however, so it's not that easy anymore.

It isn't hard but a lot of people don't think the way we do. A friend of mine resigned his (albeit low paid) job to go travelling. He lasted 2 months, came back with NO money, had to sell his car and now whinge's he can't afford to do anything. Before he left I assumed he could afford to do it and had planned what he was going to do when he got back... clearly not. I can't get my head around it.

I've done that a couple of times :p

Never as big as 2 months travelling, but massive blowouts that leave with no cash for a while. It depends how you see it I suppose. Myself, I hate stability, I've never been amazing at planning but I understand that. If I have no money then hey, I have no money but I had a damn good time while I did :D

Insurance company won't fix my HD2 :( So it's got a smashed screen forever. Now that I know they're not going to repair it, I'm tempted to buy a screen off ebay and replace it myself :dremel:

Hmm, 5000 words of a dissertation and 2500 words of an essay all to be done in the next seven days.

Thought I could place my projector in the ceiling by "eye". After placing it I discovered the screen is 5 cm lower in one side as opposed to the other. THEN i measured.

Live with a slightly skewered screen or redrill all 20 holes in my ceiling to move the projector 20 cm's to the left? .. -.-'

get some shims? Fabricate something outta wood and get longer screws / bolts to mount it with? May not look pretty but you could always paint it to match / add some kinda trim.

Ok lets start with this disclaimer: I WAS DRUNK

Last weekend I was out with my girlfriend and load of my mates a bar. Getting rowdy of course. Now I don't remember why exactly but I remember my GF saying you and my mate (lets call him M)

"You and M pretend to kiss and I'll take a photo"

    Ok so we do it...

Thing is the picture looks really convincing and now shes put it on facebook. Now I don't care too much but since I moved out here (U.A.E) I have a lot more Arab and Muslim people on my FB who while I doubt will think I'm gay just wont find it as funny.

A guy at work has already come in and mentioned it. I can't tell if he was joking or not when he said "I think I might stay away from you"

    Oh well

I could un-tag it but I wont get home for like 12 hours and by then the damage is probably done :hehe:

Mobile internet dude! As for the pic? You were drunk, we won't judge :p

Or you could call her and ask her to remove the tag?

I have a totally shitty phone with no mobile internet.

And anyway I'll never admit to her its bothering me even if its only slightly. Then she's won!

But I doubt anyone is going to make a big deal of it really

Just got the assignment for the large 10 page essay of the year. I have to write a report in physics and mathematics concerning differential equations and their use in applied aeronautical physics. I don't even understand the assignment text. Fml.

People using the weather as a excuse! yes its been bad and where im working theres still 2+ feet of snow but im still working! i was the first vehicle to drive down 8 slippy country roads this morning and didnt and havent had a slip all day.

The locals commented how my van wasnt the best vehicle for the weather, yet its me pushing them out when they're stuck not the other way around!

What it all boils down to is I WANT MY SCAN DELIVERY GOD DAMN IT!!

The 'u' and 'f' keys on my keyboard have stopped working so I have had to buy a cheap keyboard from Amazon (with expedited delivery) as a temporary replacement.

Anyone got any suggestions for a replacement for a Logitech G15? I need programmable and media keys with a backlight.

If you want it that bad why don't you go down to the depot and get it? :p

In other parcel-related news, a package that was going from me along the coast to Brighton has somehow managed to find its way to the Gatwick depot (even though it was supposed to be delivered today :sigh:). Damn you Parcelfail! :miffed:
