I went down to the shed for something the other day. It is not a pretty site. Still got pretty much all the mess from the modding comp in there, chunks and shavings of metal all over the floor, tools rusted up because it's not properly water tight and has no insulation. My workmate is broken too. Was hoping to get a mod on, but might have to mod the shed first :hehe:

Got a video or 2 to make though. Couple of cases that turned up late need to get tested for possible future articles and reviews. Although my knee has been playing up and wanting to rearrange itself, not need to be careful lifting anything. The joys of being the crapman :hehe:

Was gutted as ruled me out of entering an Intel modding comp. Had a wicked idea for it, but just wasn't to be. I do however already have a silent base 802 that was going to be the subject of the comp that as use as the test platform, and I thought "oh hold on. I can just adjust the idea a bit and turn it into a proper test bench! AND will make for some good videos"

Yeh, that would be cool, but you still need the shed to do that dipshit :duh:

My wife pick up covid but me and the kids avoided getting it. Not sure how we avoided it as we didn't exile her to the shed! I'm double jabbed but the kids obviously aren't so either we'd had it before or we didn't get it bad enough to test positive.

Not "ruining", but annoying. I'd heard Project Zomboid is fun, and figured I'd pick it up and see how much I can play before I have to get back to work.

Tenner, nice. Native Linux version, also nice. 4.3GB... unexpected, but okay. Install, play, hit the tutorial, "press Space to continue," okay... <clack>. <clack>. <clack>. <clackclackclackCLACKCLACKCLACKCLACK>.

    So, that doesn't work.

Discussions, search "space bar," nothing of interest. DuckDuckGo, nothing. Google, nothing.

Fine, whatever, uninstall, let's try the Windows version via Proton. Re-install... wait, why is the Windows version only 1.46GB? Meh, whatever. Install. Install the post-install installers. Launch game. Launch game. LAUNCH GAME. LA... you know what? Screw it.

Refund request submitted. Total "play time": 7 minutes. Total time spent faffing around: I dunno, half an hour? An hour?

My daughters first Christmas, grandparents in contact with omicron and have to isolate, sister has covid as of this morning, other grandparents can’t visit due to the covid “contact” issues and all because kids and schools don’t follow the rules because kids are selfish little idiots and school teachers aren’t allowed to tell kids off these days for not following rules, not licking windows, sharing drinks bottles etc through fear of losing their jobs by “emotionally damaging” them. Worst of all, I’m not talking about little kids, I’m talking about senior school kids. #%^€$#
Parents of #%^*+# kids need the kids taking off them if they can’t control the little #%^*&. How hard is it to teach kids integrity and to be well mannered? Scum.
Boris hasn’t even had chance to ruin Christmas yet and out of spite I hope he does.

Trying to get through to HMRC, naturally a busy time of the year so much to my delight I actually got into the queue this morning rather than the "All our advisers are busy, goodbye" I've been getting for the past few weeks trying.

Sat for 25 minutes and as it was answered by an adviser the line went dodgy and they cut me off... ughhhh

Luckily I'm back into the queue.

    First speeding fine, ever.
Been driving for over 20 years (dang, i'm old); and just got caught out by a fast downhill dual carriage way, paying more attention to the conditions and other road users than my speed and the camera van parked in the lay-by :(

It happens. I got snagged doing 36 in a 30 - didn't even realise my speed had drifted up that high.

You'll almost certainly be offered the speed awareness course. That's well worth doing anyway IMO, I learned a ton of stuff on that course that I wasn't taught when I was learning.

We have a 2 node login cluster for our CMS and one node reboots every 40mins like clockwork. Been doing it 5 days and it's only just been noticed. Something to do with Python/pip. Eugh.

Supposed to have finished work for Christmas, but I've just spent a chunk of the morning writing a reply to this:

    dhl.jpg

Yup, a bill for nearly £200 import VAT from DHL. For a camera module. Which was supplied as a commercial sample. Which, even if it wasn't, is being sold via Kickstarter for just £12.

Either it's a valid commercial sample, in which case it's exempt from import VAT; or it's a gift with a value under £39, in which case... yeah, it's exempt from import VAT.

A thick packet of dead tree is winging its way to DHL via Royal Mail Special Delivery, as well as a digital version via email. I don't care which option they pick of the two, but I'd rather see 'em in court than pay - even if I could claim the VAT (but not the £11 handling charge) back from HMRC.

    :jawdrop:

That's a pretty obscene import price for a commercial sample worth £12. If I were in your shoes, I'd also be fighting them all the way!

Wow. What a shocker. I'd be doing similar! If I can help legally in any way, Gareth, drop me a PM.

Well I didn't evade it for long. Tested positive yesterday morning. Was still feeling pretty much fine when I went to bed, bit of a scratchy throat. Woke this morning and throat getting pretty sore but manageable with regular sips. As the day has worn on, my throat has slowly closed and my head and shoulders got heavier and heavier, with occasional basketball thumps to the head. Made concentration very difficult, but still got the video I was doing tied up and sent off, even if a little lighter than planned, but maybe for the best.

With it published and posted, my body let go. Now everything is difficult. Good job I anticipated this and cooked 7 meals last night.
