So, it's been sentenced to life as a server cabinet because you got an ouchie? Harsh, dude. Harsh.

 

Yup, It is not too bad now I am working in the office today as I have a decent fan and the building isn't warm at the best of times. However, it is still 29C in here and getting unpleasant.

At home is a completely different story though, our house has 10" solid concrete walls which is a lot of mass to retain heat. Chances are that it'll be over 30C for most of the night, and the fans won't be doing much other than just moving the air around...

 

Oh yes, oh yes indeed… In fact swears still escape every time I accidentally bump it into something…

It’s been sentenced to life as a server cabinet because the alternative is taking it to landfill, which seems like a bit of an ignominious fate for what was once a much-loved piece of furniture. I was racking my brain for a while to try and figure out if we had a use for it at home when I realised that the shelves were more or less 19” wide.

It was part of a whole suite of solid wood furniture that my parents bought when we lived in Germany, it’s been around for more than 30 years and it’s still as solid as ever. I’m not really much of a sentimental person, but it felt like such a waste to just… chuck it out… Granted, modern Ikea-type furniture is a lot more stylish, but you’ll never get that kind of longevity out of flat-packed thinly-veneered chipboard

 

If only Ikea used chipboard instead of cardboard!

 

Indeed, I decided to build a corner desk for my daughter using a couple of cheap Ikea desktops, I was quite surprised when I put my circular saw through it to see it was just made of cardboard

all came out OK in the end just had to do a bit more structural work to make up for the severely weakened desktop once I chopped it, still it was less than 100quid for a 3.5m corner desk that's been in use for years despite my butchering, half the cost was the legs

 

My mother in law died 18 months ago, trying to dispose of very good quality Younger rosewood furniture, was a nightmare. Philip Serrell said it wasn't worth the fuel to drive 1 mile to collect it for the auction room, whilst he was there valuing the chattels for probate. This included a dining table sideboard and 6 chairs which were in excess of £10000 in the 1980s. eventually shifted it but for next to nothing.

 

I know EVRI gets a deservedly bad reputation for their service but I've never experienced anything as consistently poor as Yodel.

Somehow they can't find my address ever, the few times they've made it successfully it's always "Oh your postcode takes me out here, did you know that" I've checked Yodel have the correct address, they do. Nothing that could easily be mistyped either.

"I put it in my sat nav and I end up here" No it ****ing doesn't you absolute plum, you're the only person who seems to struggle and end up in the wrong town. I don't expect him to remember me but how hard is it to look on his sat nav and go... "Ahhh I'm a good 2 mile away here in the WRONG ****ING TOWNNN!" not a few road aways, different towns with absolutely no similarity in name at all.

Boring now, just leaving it to go back and get a refund instead.

 

many years ago pre sat nav, i was filling up in a local filling station at about 6 o'clock in the morning, when a delivery driver asked the cashier for directions. He showed him his delivery note. The cashier said christ almighty mate., this says Worcester Park, not Worcester, you're about 120 miles away.

 

Had an operation Monday to remove a tumour from my ear, what was supposed to be a 45 minute job took 5 hours and then once in recovery heart was doing 230bpm and I decided to stop breathing, so that was fun. Tumour sent off to see if it's cancerous. The tumour in my spine also made waking up post surgery funny as they had to jump on me and manipulate me, so I'm covered in cuts, bruises, bleeding, split lip, all that fun stuff.

But, I'm alive. Discharged without any pain meds, but just with some anti sickness tablets that no pharmacy stocks and have to order in that will take a few days. Good job I already have a stash of cyclizine to take the nausea off.

 

working half of yesterdays shift on a useless op in 30c heat with a stabby on only to leave and come across a broken down cement mixer spilling concrete on the road on the way back, cue me spend the next 2 hours shovelling concrete off the road before it sets while waiting for highways to come clean it off,

felt like I was going to ****ing die.

 

Ooft, fingers crossed.

You could have taken the vest off, and if anyone gave you aggro, hit them with the shovel and buried them in the concrete

But aye, fair play, concrete is absolutely no joke to shift.

 

In your best Policeman voice, could you not just tell it to "Move Along" instead of shovelling it?

Damn dude, hope it all comes back ok.

 

Got discharged with no pain medication, went to the drs this morning and was prescribed Naproxen. Useless.

Oh, and cars in for its MOT, hopefully that’ll pass.

 

Ooops, after I just spent a couple of grand to keep her going whilst I procrastinate over what the replacement will be.

I am on 500mg of Naproxen daily for my very long term back pain and I am really not sure that it is doing a lot. I used to be on double that but they took me off as it "might be affecting my kidney function" without actually doing any tests to see if it was affecting it (had tests and it was not - they did not put the dose back up...)

Naproxen is wonderful, for joint/muscle pain. For actual physical pain, it's useless (in my case, your milage my vary)

I've managed to acquire some morphine and oxycodone now, so the pain is somewhat manageable. Haven't dropped a log since Sunday though, but I've barely eaten, was pacing the living room till 5am this morning hoping the pain would subside. It's also oozing quite badly and smells horrific, so I think it's infected.
