It was actually quite a fetching "army" green, which seems rare. I went against it in the end when I found Schott also made them, I've got about four of their jackets and they're all excellent. Just waiting on one being delivered from Japan as that's where the Steve sized second hand market is :hehe:

I've still got a Schott zip up hoodie that's only just starting to wear out after about (calculates) umpteen years.

    Give or take.

My cat broke his back leg.

He's 16 and has a heart murmur, pooping issues, and lost a lot of weight, so the vet suggested putting him to sleep right there, because he's only going to get older and it may have to be amputated.

But most of my cats live to 20 with the same issues. With a broken leg, he's still trying to jump around. He's quiet, but still eating, cuddling etc.

And as soon as he was back from the vet, he sprinted through the cat flap and ran around the garden. With a broken femur.

As someone who's had to make the death decision a few times, and knowing it's sometimes about doing it just before it gets bad as much as when it's gone bad, I've decided to keep him in for expensive tests for a day so we know more about his condition.

Had it been 10 years ago with no money, it's an 'easy' decision. But this is precisely what I've been saving up for, so I've got the money.

But it's not about what I want, it's what he wants. And he wants to run around on 3 legs. So let's see what the tests say.

There are squirrels in my house.

I put a 3rd floor on my house and it was built above the existing roof, so there's an "interstitial space" between the ceiling of the 2nd floor and the bottom of the 3rd floor framing. The squirrels are in there and I can hear them chewing on stuff.

I have a one-way squirrel door and some other stuff I can do to try and get them out (and hopefully keep them out), but it's been snowing, so ladder safety is a concern in addressing the exterior issues.

It's driving me crazy. I just want to strangle them when I hear the chewing.

I can get into the interstitial space and crawl around, but I'm 6'-4" tall and it's a tight space for me. I sorta just need to do it, though.

Not ruining my life, but the update is his results were actually good for an old cat.

It was a trauma fracture, not bone disease or anything. He has heart murmur, heart disease and IBD, but common conditions.

So I went ahead with amputation.

I also visited him before surgery - he got so excited and was trying to jump up on things with 2 working legs (1 in IV cast), so this is what he wanted too.

He survived surgery and has started eating a little at home. After his meds, he started trying to run and jump everywhere. -_-

He's also peed the bed twice and has leaky diarrhea, but it's only a day after surgery.

I'm trying not to worry about him hurting himself again or not getting better, and thinking of it as the bonus stage of his life.

Pretty disgusting how money buys you happiness.

Flu jabs do that for me, insane immune reaction because why not. 7-11 days of misery after one vs 3-4 days of flu means I'll take the latter

My wife is watching Call The midwife on the TV, a few minutes ago I was in the same room while waiting for the kettle to boil. At this time a young mother shouted angrily at her child. Even though I'm 60 and she has been dead a few years, that immediately brought back dark memories of my mother and, brought tears to my eyes.

Bullying and abuse by a mother, the person who should make you feel safe, never goes away...

That is rough and really saps your energy.

We keep at least 2 spare boxes of balsam tissues in stock for winter colds and hay fever. Nothing else helps so well with not getting sore nostrils.
Do you want me to drop some in on my way home from work? ;)

Ha, I've just been out to buy some, it takes the edge off. I'd normally try to cure this sort of thing with brown liquor but I'm doing dry January

Antihistamines can help a lot, by reducing the inflammation and irritation, thus stopping or reducing the nasal flood. Works for me.

AHH, you missed out as I just finished my bottle of Captain Morgan Spiced Rum.....Zero :p

Zero alcohol beer is fine if you choose well, zero spirits are just expensive cordial IMHO.

Hope the tap dries up soon.

For the first time in my adult life, I had to clean up my ageing father's piss from around the toilet. My ageing mother at first tried to stop me and said she would do it later, but I pointed out she was cooking supper and I didn't want piss in it.

So, that's...something new to worry about.

Just got over the 1-2 of COVID (first time somehow) and a chest infection. Combined with asthma, it's been a pretty tough week.

I seem to have maybe developed a dose of tonsilitis. Need to give the doc's a shout and see if I can get in to see someone. Had a bad case of it ~20 years ago and my throat has never been right since, I tend to get every cough going.

If it is what I think it is, at least I respond very well to penicillin type antibiotics, just need to get to see someone.

I got tonsillitis for the first time in my 20s, it turned into Quinsy and after that every single time I got a cold (I have no immune system, and the office had no windows that opened - so I got a LOT of colds), I'd get bad tonsils and then Quinsy. It was hell. My Dr ended up giving me a double dose of extra strong antibiotics to kill off everything lurking inside my tonsils and although they were clearly killing me from the inside out and made me feel super rough - they worked! My tonsils have been sorted ever since, though they are really scarred now so I get tonsil stones :blah:

But yeah, I recommend explaining it to the GP and seeing if they can do similar for you. It was a game-changer!

I had all kinds of tonsil problems when I was younger, from tonsillitis to tonsular crypts and tonsil stones - and I ended up getting so fed up with it I sat in my GP's office and refused to leave until he referred me for a tonsillectomy, which he did with ill grace. Had 'em out at the age of... mid to late 20s, I think, which they weren't happy about, but I haven't had a scrap of trouble since!

The days of your first meal being a bowl of ice cream are long gone, though. Mine was a dry corned beef sandwich, no butter...

I had a really bad dose when I started university back in 2003, to the point where the GP that I saw commented that she had only seen cases like mine in the text books. Couldn't talk, running a fever, had grey blotches all over the back of my throat and so on. Got put on a penicillin type antibiotic and everything got cleaned up within a couple of days (of course, I still finished the whole course as I am not a muppet...).

However, what it left was that whenever I get any sniffle, cold, flu, Covid, whatever, I end up with a tickly cough that will just not shift and I can never cough the right area in my throat to scratch the tickle. Now this is not helped as this is also a side effect of Ramipril which I have been on for years.

This time around it seemed to have started with a painful saliva gland - possibly an infection, but that cleared pretty fast. However, I now have pain on both sides of my throat especially when swallowing and I can see that my tonsils are almost glowing red, no grey goop this time and I can still kinda talk OK.

Just sat in a callback queue with the GP for an hour and 3 quarters and have been referred by the triage receptionist to a pharmacy over the road. As long as they can help me then I don't mind this at all as they are a good bunch of pharmacists over there and get stuff done.

As for having them out, if that is where I end up then fine, not bothered about that at all, but I think 1 confirmed plus another suspected case in 23 years is not doing too badly for now.
