I seem to have maybe developed a dose of tonsilitis. Need to give the doc's a shout and see if I can get in to see someone. Had a bad case of it ~20 years ago and my throat has never been right since, I tend to get every cough going.

If it is what I think it is, at least I respond very well to penicillin type antibiotics, just need to get to see someone.

I got tonsillitis for the first time in my 20s, it turned into Quinsy and after that every single time I got a cold (I have no immune system, and the office had no windows that opened - so I got a LOT of colds), I'd get bad tonsils and then Quinsy. It was hell. My Dr ended up giving me a double dose of extra strong antibiotics to kill off everything lurking inside my tonsils and although they were clearly killing me from the inside out and made me feel super rough - they worked! My tonsils have been sorted ever since, though they are really scarred now so I get tonsil stones :blah:

But yeah, I recommend explaining it to the GP and seeing if they can do similar for you. It was a game-changer!

I had all kinds of tonsil problems when I was younger, from tonsillitis to tonsular crypts and tonsil stones - and I ended up getting so fed up with it I sat in my GP's office and refused to leave until he referred me for a tonsillectomy, which he did with ill grace. Had 'em out at the age of... mid to late 20s, I think, which they weren't happy about, but I haven't had a scrap of trouble since!

The days of your first meal being a bowl of ice cream are long gone, though. Mine was a dry corned beef sandwich, no butter...

I had a really bad dose when I started university back in 2003, to the point where the GP that I saw commented that she had only seen cases like mine in the text books. Couldn't talk, running a fever, had grey blotches all over the back of my throat and so on. Got put on a penicillin type antibiotic and everything got cleaned up within a couple of days (of course, I still finished the whole course as I am not a muppet...).

However, what it left was that whenever I get any sniffle, cold, flu, Covid, whatever, I end up with a tickly cough that will just not shift and I can never cough the right area in my throat to scratch the tickle. Now this is not helped as this is also a side effect of Ramipril which I have been on for years.

This time around it seemed to have started with a painful saliva gland - possibly an infection, but that cleared pretty fast. However, I now have pain on both sides of my throat especially when swallowing and I can see that my tonsils are almost glowing red, no grey goop this time and I can still kinda talk OK.

Just sat in a callback queue with the GP for an hour and 3 quarters and have been referred by the triage receptionist to a pharmacy over the road. As long as they can help me then I don't mind this at all as they are a good bunch of pharmacists over there and get stuff done.

As for having them out, if that is where I end up then fine, not bothered about that at all, but I think 1 confirmed plus another suspected case in 23 years is not doing too badly for now.

Tonsillitis is not great, ,I had it regularly as a youngster and had mine out aged 5 in the early 70s. I know they're REALLY unwilling to take them out these days as Gareth said. Supposedly they are a valuable first line of defence against other infection, fine so long as they aren't giving you grief

My daughter has has a 4 year run of regular tonsillitis, including hospitalisation for dehydration a couple of times.

It does seem to have been better this last year, maybe that's linked to giving up her Musical Theatre course, where she'd be singing daily.

The corned beef sandwich...Eeeek! I was massively disappointed not to be given ice cream in hospital after my op, it was cornflakes, which at least could soak and be softened.
My hopes were buoyed up by the story in a Richard Scarry book that showed a youngster (Huckle the cat?) getting ice cream...such disappointment and discomfort

I gather that the current thinking is something solid to scrape any gunk away.

Hope you recover soon @Almightyrastus, it is miserable

I arrived in Paris at 5pm today, I'll be on a train back home at 5pm tomorrow. Currently waiting for my colleague from HR to arrive so we can talk strategy for tomorrow.

Letting an employee go is never fun... Even if it includes a paid-for trip to Paris.

Right then, so it turns out that I was right... Tonsilitis it is and I now have a box of lovely Phenoxymethylpenicillin to get through over the next 5 days. Should sort me out pretty quickly.

My Dad's ashes are being scattered/interred today. I'm a mess and it's okay to be a mess on a day like today. The hard part is that I'm not able to be there for it. Furthermore, my family have been difficult about the whole thing, and now I haven't just lost him, but them too. I feel that I've been true to myself and done only what I can do, but it still sucks that I'm being penalised for it.

At A&E again. Whatever is going on with my lungs isn't giving up, anything more strenouous than light breathing, talking or laying down and I'm coughing up a lung or three

    This could be bad

On NYE I got a message saying my order was ready to collect in Argos Bury of which I was nowhere near and had not ordered.

When I logged into my rarely used Argos account someone had managed to order a pink iPhone paying with Klarna. I quickly changed the password (with some Apple earbuds in the basket) and contacted Argos within 20 minutes who told me to contact Klarna, The purchase hadn't appeared on my Klarna account so I figured maybe something was up and there was maybe an admin error of sorts.

Unfortunately, Its now appeared on my credit score... Klarna deferred payment in 3 which suggests an initial payment date would be today which obviously won't be made. Still not showing on my Klarna account so clearly somehow they've made another Klarna account but I don't understand how without having any cards attached to it...

Honestly, just like tired of **** happening to me at the moment... was hoping to buy a house this year but if I can't get this sorted this is going to blow a gaping hole in my ****ing dreams. Could just sit down in a corner and cry. Contacted Klarna, Action Fraud, Transunion and Argos. Klarna have confirmed that the investigation is ongoing from when I opened it on the 31st and when it's completed I'll be able to get it removed from my credit score. Contacted Argos in hopes of pushing along some engagement with Klarna with all relevant timestamps and order numbers. Transunion to dispute it early (although fat lot that usually does) and Action Fraud to back it all up...

But I honestly just don't feel that lucky at the moment.... just feels like one thing after another.

Applied and interviewed for a role up the chain. Didnt get it.
Whats annoying the most is that ive basically been doing the role gratis for almost 9months; and i'll now have to report to whoever has got the role, whilst i stagnate where i am, probably with less impact/involvement in the programme direction, gah.
