Having similar issues with our vendor's solicitors right now, delaying everything whilst I'm still paying more and more months of my landlord's mortgage when I should be paying my future mortgage off instead...

Just goes to show that even if you shop around and pay over the odds and get a well recommended local conveyancer, the sellers will do the opposite and get a cheap, useless online conveyancer hundreds of miles away from the properties in question.

    Total tangent.

“PC LOAD LETTER” means “paper cartridge load letter” - as in, the printer has run out of “letter”-sized paper :thumb:.

My favourite obscure printer error of all time is not from a printer, but from a Unix/Linux printer driver: “lp0 on fire” (wiki link https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lp0_on_fire)

And now you have more useless trivia filling up your brain :hehe:

Houses disappearing from the market before our viewing appointments happen. Appointment no.4 is this afternoon, if we get that far.

Suddenly, the two month deadline to vacate the property seems very fugging close.

I hear you bud, we've been looking for a while and things are either not right, overpriced or disappear.

Thankfully our only deadline is sanity.

    Good luck mate.

I have plenty of clean laundry, and there are showers at work I can use.

    There is an upside, though.
For every 12 hours it's not fixed, they have to pay every affected household £30 compensation.

EDIT - Burned 10mins on the way into work this morning, to collect my 24L of "Courtesy Water" for the day.

Well that was an utterly **** weekend.

Finally got an update from my mum on her current treatment status. Didn't start well "so you know it was stage 4", "No, you told me stage 3", "oh...".

Well to cut a long story short its now a case of quality and not quantity (i.e. terminal).

I already had an inkling that it wasn't going to be great but actually hearing it was something else.

Nearly 5 years to the day having the same news for my Dad.

Can cancer kindly go and **** itself...

UPDATE #AGAIN - The water finally returned sometime around 15:30-16:00 Saturday.
At least, that's how long the loo was gurgling for!

So sorry to hear this bud.

Although we can't fully understand your exact situation quite a few of us can sympathise with our experiences of that cword cword.

Outbursts on here are encouraged. Don't bottle anything up.

    Hang in there.

Got the news this morning that a colleague has died.

He was in the same department as me and for a long time worked as my UK sales contact for the technical work that I do. One of the nicest guys that you could ever know and very much liked by everyone in the office.

The Y2K bug. Or rather, a variant of the Y2K bug.

I have a bike computer - a wee GPS device that you can use to track your rides, navigate about, and show various useful bits of data. It's a Wahoo Elmnt Bolt v1, for those interested, and I've had it since 2018 and it's never given me any bother. Until this Sunday, 17 August 2025, when it went completely potty and started misbehaving in all sorts of annoying ways. The GPS functionality is now completely unreliable - constantly losing location, sometimes for minutes at a time. Quite a few other annoyances like losing saved settings on the unit, and bizarrely the unit thinking that Sunday was actually 1 January 2006. There's a companion app so I was able to restore my settings from that (and seemingly the date), but the GPS was still knackered.

Turns out that 17 August 2006 is exactly 1,024 weeks after 1 Jan 2006, and the bike computer's wee brain is unable to deal with that and we have a good old overflow :D As the GPS relies entirely on time & location data, the time being up **** creek means that it struggles mightily to reconcile the time per the unit's own brain with the time via the linked companion app, resulting in absolute carnage. Wahoo are apparently working on a fix but it's not even certain if one is possible. I will be extremely cross if it's not, as this unit has been fantastic for the last 7+ years and still works fine, date issue aside.

I am quite surprised that no-one at Wahoo seemed to be aware of this issue ahead of time. So yeah, a variant on the Y2K bug in the year of our lord 2025.

I suspect that someone somewhere was aware and did speak up… but was overruled or ignored.

How else are they supposed to sell you the Wahoo Elemnt Bolt v2 or v3?

An update was released today that seems to have fixed the issue. One the one hand, it's not great that they let this problem go unresolved until now, but on the other at least they're continuing to support what is by now pretty old hardware.

Looks like your cynicism was unfounded in this case...

The cynicism isn’t always purely cynicism when it comes with a good deal of lived experience behind it .

Though it is good to see companies supporting their stuff so long after release. I noticed last week that one of my colleagues uses the same model, I’ll let him know in case he doesn’t see it.

Promised repeatedly that work would pay for my ACT course once I passed probation. Passed probation aaaaand it's gone. :wallbash:

I had to put in the formal request while setting my current year objectives (of which getting cracking on the ACT course was a big part of, and signed off on confirming they'd pay), had heard nothing so chased L&D, get a response of "sorry we missed that one, we'll get that processed", then another email shortly after that it had not been authorised. Erm, shawaddy-what now? I replied saying this was agreed in my interview/offer, repeatedly confirmed by my manager, signed off on as part of my formal objectives, and as far as I was aware/concerned, the request was merely a formality. Trouble is my manager is now on maternity and my director on holiday.

Good job I got hit up about a job with Corning last week. I was perfectly happy in the current job, wasn't looking and had no intention of leaving, but always open to a nibble and glad I sent my CV.
