In a case of, "Boy, that escalated quickly," I now have a different boss, previous boss no longer works for this establishment.
It seems that my meltdown prompted questions about exactly why did someone with 12 years perfect disciplinary and attendance record suddenly blow up in public. Which prompted a spotlight being shined on my boss and their general lack of organisation, work ethic, honesty, commitment and lack of ability to follow the very specific instructions they were given. Which prompted them getting absolutely reamed by senior management. Which ended with them giving their notice in a fit of pique... then trying to extract an apology for the 'disrespect' they'd been shown in exchange for cancelling their resignation.

This week was the first week with New-New Boss. Initial signs seem positive, they actually turned up for one thing.

 

That's great to hear!

I was wondering of this was going to trigger a review - if something similar had happened under my watch, I would also be asking WHY did this happen from another perspective. After all, no smoke without fire!

It's certainly been an interesting couple of months.

 

Had an issue around Christmas/New Year where at least one of the wheels on my car had the brakes not release when taking the handbrake off, and it didn't release when the car started to try to move (as has happened in the past when there's been a bit of rust or something), so got someone out who ended up jacking the car up and whacking it with a hammer to release, and they said the pads/discs were knackered and rusted so I took it to a garage and they confirmed and got both rear pads and discs replaced (had been mentioned in a previous MOT so wasn't *that* surprised).
Well guess how happy I was this morning when I went to move the car and seemingly the same thing has happened again (granted it has been sat unused for weeks but still....)! Not sure if it's the rear again or not (certainly hope not!) as I can't tell and nobody else is around to look to see if any wheels are even trying to turn, but yeah, not ideal.

 

Sorry to hear that George, if I leave a vehicle for more than a week I don't use the handbrake.
I'll put it in gear and preferably chock a wheel or 2.

Yup same, our Up! has a tendency to lock up the rears if hand brake is left on and car not used when there is bad weather, typically can rock the car back and forth and it'll free up but just leave it in gear when parked no handbrake if I am not going to use it for a few weeks.

 

Cheers I mean I'm pretty sure I've left it for a long time previously without it being this bad, and sadly both my previous house and where I currently am the drive is partially sloped so hadn't even considered not having the handbrake on, the car is currently quite sheltered where it is on almost all sides which I guess means less airflow and probably more likely for this to happen.

 

The rear brakes on our Skoda have a habit of seizing if you park in wet weather and don't move the car for a few days, but like @sandys , we can free the brakes up with a judicious bit of forward/reverse rocking.

Like @GeorgeStorm , we have to park on a hill (but on the street not a driveway) so not applying the handbrake isn't an option.

 

In gear works on hills too, in fact on my old Sierra I used to have the reverse problem due to atmospheric change and I used to find the car at the bottom of the hill if I just used handbrake with lots of beeping in the morning because it was blocking the road So it was in gear and steering angled to wall/kerb. So annoying when you are trying to have a lie in.

 

The pot hole I hit on Monday was enough to buckle the wheel to the point that the new tyre wouldn't seal. Popped in to the Volvo garage to see what could be done - new wheel needed, and the driver side wheel was also slightly buckled (another pothole), so got a deal on replacing both at the same time. Not cheap. However, the earliest slot is...13th March . Called up my boss to explain the situation, and he's happy for me to work at home for the next fortnight. The space saver wheel is holding strong, so I can still pop out for little trips to the shops etc. Anyway, pothole reported (although the road is littered in reports) and extra food bought. I've also documented everything to date, and will make a claim against Hampshire County Council when I have the bill for the work done.

Driving up to Stoke (153 mile trip) on the spare was quite stressful. Set off at 7PM, got there at 1030PM as roadworks started popping up on the motorways after about 9PM. I had to constantly watch behind me and would briefly flashed my hazard lights whenever a lorry was approaching - some would flash their lights quickly to acknowledge (still has one Audi w@nker beep at me though when he roared up behind an overtaking lorry - I hope he gets some terrible disease in the bum). On the motorways, I upped the speed to ~57mph to stay at lorry speeds, which worked out fine. Anyway, don't want to do that again, even if my fuel efficiency was amazing.

 

That'll be lack of sleep too. I went through a few months a couple of years or so ago of doing a LOT of overtime at work, meaning I was only getting 4-6 hours' sleep a night. As well as being more argumentative, I remember the paranoia. I would drive back to my house at the weekend, and as I got near, I'd be almost in tears as I was convinced someone had broken in while I was away.

 

Wheels can be straightened and repaired I recently did my Up!, my daughter is learning to drive and she seems to be a pothole homing pidgeon though to be fair the roads around my way are so bad now you need to have the reactions of an F1 driver and the talent of Russ Swift to avoid, In the rain you just have no clue what surprise awaits in the puddle, I am seriously thinking of getting a chunky 4x4 with big ass tyres because the roads aren't fit for small cars or bikes having fallen into such disrepair through lack of maintenance, seems the councils will spend millions on cycle lanes 3 people use and nothing on the roads.

The place I used was very good, Bristol Wheel Alignment - The Local Auto Experts, turned them around in 3days all 4 straightened (one had a massive rim bend how we did not loose a tyre from it I'll never know) including refurb at half the price of one new wheel from VW.
