So after the sellers saying they'd negotiate on price they've changed their mind.

N number of weeks and extra surveys wasted.

On top of that the rescheduled Christmas trip due to flu is imminent and I'm now running a temperature.

    Absolutely effed off in general.

Well, that's utterly shite, mate. At least it's only flu and not man flu.

As a follow-up to my post back in December about a strangely negative review from company directors, I finally have an update.

Yesterday morning I was called into a meeting with HR and one of the directors, and he fired me on the spot. It all makes sense now! My best guess is that the company's finances are tanking, and there will likely be more firings to follow (sadly, the norm for the video game industry at this time). Grounds for my dismissal are laughably tenuous and vague, but because I've only been in their employ for 16 months I won't be able to pursue any legal action. Strangely, when I met with my boss in the afternoon he was pretty burdened about the whole thing, which surprised me because he was very much involved in the decision. Suffice to say I kept it professional.

I've been here before and it's by no means the end of the line, but damn it's a blow!

****, that is rough. But I guess you can take some comfort from knowing that it wasn't anything at all to do with your performance, and that you were just a victim of weak, cowardly management and cost-cutting.

I hope you can land on your feet and get a job with a company more deserving of your time and skills.

As an aside, I think it's disgraceful that in the UK you need to have been in post for two entire years before you are safe from what our US chums would describe as "at-will" dismissal.

Wow, that's pretty shitty behavior, regardless of financial pressure. Was that the strategy - tell em they're **** and not deserving of a pay rise and anyone who pushes back, Instead of meekly accepting, gets shown the door?

Good luck mate, I hope you find something else soon.

Is this anything to do with Ubisoft?

Thanks guys. @David nail on head man, that pretty much sums it up. They were reluctant to take me on in the first place, and I recently found out I was paid pretty darn well compared to a fair whack of the other devs, so it all makes sense now. And I agree @bawjaws it's ridiculous; there's no such thing as "job security" even if you have a permanent contract. I'm now pretty keen to get freelance work as it pays a lot better and is no less secure - actually, depending on certain jobs, it's arguably more secure.

And yeah Dundee has Rockstar (a very small part of it), and a good few smaller outfits, including my [former] employer.

    My back.

    My own fault.

Had some pallets of stock delivered to work and nobody even cracked them open by midday so I got annoyed and cleared half of it on my own. You know, show willing/ lead by example etc... nothing. By 3.30 nobody had touched the rest - "oh the truck will be back any moment, full of stock". Useless cnuts. So I got mad and moved the rest.

    Now I can barely move.

Whelp, the inevitable happened, and I've now got flu courtesy of my colleague.

Popped out early this morning to pick up lemons and honey, as well as some food. Took some effort to stay on my feet.

The constant dread of coming home each night wondering if a SJPN has arrived. I was caught speeding at 104mph at the end of September last year.

Isn't there a time limit on how long they have to issue those notices?

I passed my test in 1997, this is my first offence. I knew I was speeding. I planned my journey well in advance (planned to arrive 2+ hours early), it was to my nans funeral. But due to multiple factors there were huge delays on the motorway, the minutes and hours ticked by and panic was setting in.

I made the choice to floor it so I could get to say goodbye. I was supposed to carry her coffin and lead most of the service. I just made it to catch the last 15 minutes and say goodbye. Life tried to screw me over and I fought tooth and nail to make it. I have no regrets, I didn't ever speed before and I am not likely to again. But put in the same situation I would do it again every time. 6 points/ban and maybe £1500 fine is a bargain to me.

Not forgetting the extra cost on your insurance, for years...

My wife says my dislike of being late, is such that it is like a phobia. I would have given the car some wellie in a similar situation.

Yes that too, let's just say I am glad it was just the 104mph they clocked me at.

Hope it doesn't hang around too long like our second holiday killer has.

It's been over a week now, it seems to be separated up into different symptoms every few days.

Driving us mad now, just as you start feeling better another batch of symptoms arrive - currently on a snotty nose and occasional hacky cough after a temperature and sore throat period.

    It's mental.

On the plus(?) side I'm glad we didn't travel
