Yeah, it's the same as the strata stuff we have to deal with on apartments in Australia, it leaves you totally beholden to some mythical company for something you supposedly "own".

    Earlier today:
So apparently HMRC don't bother adjusting your tax code anymore, they just send it to a debt collection agency. Nice.

Called the debt folk and I allegedly owe £86.40 from 23-24 and £171.40 from all the way back in 19-20. The 19-20 is a shocker as I was on SSP for a large portion of that year and would be amazed if I even used all my allowance. Log into HMRC portal and I can't go that far back. Great. I'll have to call them.

    Weird.

My OH is having tax taken back via HMRC this tax year after last year's got a bit off track via an occasional secondary work and the move to Scotland.

You sure this debt collection is legit mate? Be best to get a hold of HMRC.

Usually when the weather is warm like this, it's warmer inside my house than it is outside.

Today, however, I think we have reached equilibrium.

    A very sticky equilibrium.

I'm having my house re-rendered and Friday the renderer wrapped all the windows, we are shutdown cannot open a window etc, great time for it,

I'm not sure it needs to be in ruining though, despite outside temps as the house is pretty cool.

Guess a side effect of sealed up windows is I can't let the heat in :D

You can still open the loft hatch to let the heat out though. (assuming you have one)

Nearly got taken out on the 303 this morning by a person who was obviously annoyed at something as he violently swerved into me after we, checks notes, simply joined the 303 off the roundabout in seperate lanes (I had recently joined from a side road and he was already on the roundabout - i.e. normal driving up to that point). Only thing I can think of is he took offense to the fact that my lane was moving faster than his lane (as is normal on such a traffic controlled roundabout joining the dual carriageway) thus I was obviously in the wrong somehow. Also when I say swerved I mean aggressively enough that I had to apply full emergency braking coming to a near stop on a 70mph road...

No screenshots or footage as I have uploaded it to Operation Snap because **** that noise.

For context I drive a Model 3 so the thing is covered in cameras that are always recording.

Washing machine's packed up innit. Obviously you only find this out when a week's worth of washing needs doing.

To be fair, it's lasted 11 years and the warranty is for 10. Off I go to look at another one. Might see if I can get the same model as it was pretty good.

Funny how coincidental it is that things often pack up just after the warranty expires.

If you bought a new car with a seven year warranty, Kia or Hyundai for example, you’d be well pissed-off if it was uneconomical to repair, after one more year.

We’ve become conditioned to expect white goods to be shortlived.

To be fair, a lot of folk neglect their white goods. I had a nine month contract as Whirlpool field engineer, carrying out 1000+ home visits, and the state of a lot of machines was pretty rough. Maybe 15-20% were in a clean and well maintained state.

The drum arm on our Samsung snapped after 11 years, I think the warranty was 7? I replaced it, doing the bearings at the same time as a precautionary measure. It's the goose that laid the golden egg, we just ram dirty clothes into it and they come out clean, no way am I replacing it until I have to.

    True enough.

Always give my rim a quick wipe down after a wash to stop it stinking.

Not the best life mantra but it works.

I did (very) briefly think about taking it all apart and seeing if I could fix or replace bits myself...but the reality of wasting a few hours at the weekend on a problem I might not be able to solve, plus the fact that the weekend is the only real time I get to myself to relax, lead me to the sure way of solving the problem.

I did fix my tumble dryer a few years ago by replacing the air impeller. Even had to find a way to make a part meant for a newer model fit, which I was proud of. It's been running fine ever since (proceeds to touch every wooden object in and outside the house). But there again, that was during Covid and redundancy, so had nothing but spare time.

Anyway, new one is up and running. The Amazon chaps were quick and professional. I left them a nice review.
