We have a video chat with my parents every week. Our Sunday morning, their Saturday night. Every week they're drunk, pretty much without fail. Different degrees of drunk, but always drunk. They're both retired, they don't need to wait till the weekend to get drunk, and they certainly don't. For context, they describe Monday and Tuesday as their "days off".

This weekend was no different. We're chatting, they're drunk, rehashing all their latest news that they've told us 3 or more times over our last few chats. My mum says they've been clearing out the kitchen for a refurb so didn't start drinking as early that day ("Did we mention we're having the kitchen done?", "Yes, every week for the last month at least.") so they're probably not as drunk as usual.

This next bit is what really got me. After saying they're probably not as drunk as usual, my Mum says "Sometimes I feel like you're short with us because we're drunk when we chat"

Oh, so you have noticed, and yet have chosen A) Not to bother asking until this point; and B) Not done anything about it?

Just unbelievable. Such an insightful, infuriating revelation.

We're trying to raise Mr 3yo to have a healthy balanced view of everything he sees around him, whether that's food, alcohol, whatever. My parents would get incredibly drunk when me and my 2 brothers were teens, and I'm fairly sure that's how we ended up in a situation where I drank way too much in my teens, my younger brother was teetotal until his 30s, and my youngest brother struggled with cannabis. We don't want him going this route (teetotal is fine, you know what I mean). On top of this, alcoholism was a large factor in my MIL's early death.

    They just seem absolutely clueless.

Ended up in a&e Saturday night. Fell and hit my head on the corner of a slate wall, :wallbash: gash on my head, blood everywhere, big drama. Don't remember a great deal about it, didn't know I was in hospital when I woke up, just been glued shut. I didn't realise until after I had been discharged however, that I'd also hurt my foot, which I thought probably just took a knock on the way down, but is now absolutely killing. Can't put any weight on the front of my foot, so getting home on the train is going to be a smidge tricky :worried: might be back in a&e this evening :duh:

Thanks guys. Co-codamol is just about keeping pain at bay, although can feel my foot growing in my trainer :waah: Oh and new information was received this morning over coffee; had a cat scan to check for brain injuries and seemed ok in the area that took a knock, but according to Mrs crap (as I was unconscious at the time) the doc said I had what looked like a "brain ulcer", but it was nothing to worry about :eyebrow:. I try and Google brain ulcer and it just comes up with brain aneurysm, soo yeeeaaah, that's gonna need a followup.

So OHs mum's husband has responded really well to cancer treatment.

A couple of years ago the prognosis wasn't good but he's done great. Even got back on the golf course at some point.

A few weeks ago he got a "it's gone" from his docs which we thought was a bit, well, weird as it was supposed to be manageable through this new treatment but incurable.

Since the end of that treatment he's now got it back in his leg and it's now a palliative care approach.

Gutted. I think it makes it more of a git because not so long ago they gave him a false over confident outlook.

    Since of C.

Car crash on the way into work today, mine's drivable but the other car is likely a writeoff. (They skidded into me on some loose gravel on a country lane)
All in the hands of the insurance now, their repair guys are already asking for pics of the damage.

Also, this month's pay was late arriving in my account, causing a brief dip into my overdraft limit

been getting stressed with life and dealing with the old ladies cancer diagnoses/planned recovery and dancing around work ins this ridiculous heart that i thought id take 3 days off after RD to have time to my self, you know a nice 6 day break where i can pump the breaks and have some me time and go back in on wednesday nice and fresh.

well that went to the ****ing dogs.

thursday/friday were so hot that i couldnt do anything functional and even sleep was a challenge, got a phone call from the hospital and they want me and the old lady to attend on tuesday for her pre op so that kinda stops me doing much on that day, saturday i wanted to get some stuff done in time for a model show on sunday but a 16 hour power cut not only killed those plans but also everything in the fridge but the weather was a bit better and was looking forward to a decent nights sleep until workmen digging up the road at 2am to fix the power put the kybosh on that, slogged through the show today with caffine and hate keeping me awake and functional before i get a phone call from the stripe telling me that shits gone south and the booking system is only showing me as having today off and not monday or tuesday either, stripe also begged me to help him as he planned for me and him to deal with some community **** as part of his portfolio that he needs to do as a newly promoted stripe (and tbh i do remember him asking about a month ago but not realising it was tommorow) so I've had to push on back from the show, prey to the god of electricity that my house is back online so i can wash my sweat soaked uniform in time to go in tomorrow and after helping the stripe; i have to fight to get the tuesday off so i can go to that pre op meeting.

dragged my arse into the office today and first thing i did was look at the roster, sure enough i was shown as being off on annual leave so i think the stripe has done a naughty and lied to me so i can come in and help him with his portfolio, he was being nice to me all day and i did **** all bar the absolutely minimum on principle, I've told him I'm taking the last late off with interest and he better cough up a pizza the night before else he'll be explaining to the gaffa why there's an angry claim for recall to duty on the books.

God, it all feels kind of helpless doesn't it?

The concentration of wealth issues globally feel like having no end in sight.

Just the constant upward movement of wealth, how it affects us all more and more, and governments' unwillingness to do anything to address it.

What state is the world going to be in for future generations if we continue on the current path.

Currently putting off going to the optometrist/optician and the dentist till we have a cheaper month or I get a new job.

    I sympathise.

It's like the folk in charge played Cyberpunk 2077 and thought "Let's make that happen.".
