Women... the only thing that ever ruins my life. So the woman I love just called from her vacation... said she met someone... and she thinks he's boyfriend material... damn things I always fear to come and then bam! they're there... and I never get the woman I want. Seriously thinking about turning gay...

Oh yeah... it sucks because she knows exactly how I feel for her!

That's always a conundrum. Should I do something with my mate's ex? Usually the answer is all's fair in love and war, but it really depends sometimes. I'd say don't this time.

 

Waiting a month for my kits to repair my DDCs I fried with plugging them in wrong. Stupid headers...

 

That sucks mate I have used those DDC kits before and have a couple of them in stock as spares, but IIRC they came from Japan (or was it China?) from an ebay seller in much less than a month... What's the hold up with yours?

My main monitor (28" Viewsonic VX2835wm) has finally given up after a couple of weeks of tell-tale signs, so I took an hour out of working at other stuff this evening and opened it up to have a look at what was wrong, or more so to confirm what I knew was probably wrong. I was right, bro. Six blown Capxon capacitors - they've done it again. Four of them on the hot side of the inverter board and two on the signal board. Unfortunately I don't have all the correct values in Panasonic or Rubycon low ESR caps to replace them tonight. Oh well, I'll be working with only two monitors for a few days until the new caps come in. There are a lot to replace on this monster of a PSU board (I don't just do the ones that are blown, if I'm replacing one, I replace 'em all).

That Viewsonic is 4 years old this month, so I guess I didn't do too badly. 100% brightness for what must be thousands of hours over a 4 year period and the Capxon's only blow now... It could have been a lot worse, a lot sooner.

 

Trying to provide text message instructions for the installation and troubleshooting of a new GPU. Going from a 8800GT to a GTX460, I was initially told "the card isn't displaying anything" and am trying to get a grasp of just what's going on. My money's on the six pin power plugs, iirc the 8800GT only used one while the GX460 in question uses two. You'd think that working with PCs would be relatively simple, if it's got a place to plug stuff in you typically want to plug something in there, preferrably something which fits without too much force. That never seems to be the case, however.

 

Just go over there and do it yourself. Honestly it saves you time and the frustration. Yes the drive might suck but experience has taught me this. If it doesn't work, take it back, make sure everything is fine and then give it back.

It's an annoying process, but it is what it is.

 

Thankfully it's nothing I sold or am responsible for, if something's broken or goes wrong outside of advice I gave then it's not my problem. Just a friend who bought himself a new video card and is trying to install it himself. Also managed to confirm that it is the six pin power which is the problem, his PSU doesn't have any by default. The one he was using for the 8800GT (which I did sell!) was an adaptor off of a molex plug. Just a matter of me grabbing another adaptor from home and bringing it over. Suppose that's testament to investing in a decent PSU (at my recommendation, he almost got an el-cheapo $25 job)), it may not have the right cables anymore but it's strong enough to keep being used!

I encourage people, particularly PC gamers such as the one I'm helping, to try and become more familiar with their computers and to have a better understanding of the hardware that they use so often. After all, if you buy a prebuilt system and then use a system like Steam to install all of your games aren't you basically a console gamer?

The downside is the occasional headache when the reality hits and not everyone has an intuit understanding of electronics. It's worth it in the end, though. Brings a smile to my face thinking how much money my friends haven't wasted by going to expensive PC repair shops and the confidence they gain once everything's working.

 

Ordered a Phenom II X4 840 for NZ$150 on Wednesday evening.
-Product page promised shipping within 24 hrs
-I paid a $20 premium over going to another etailer for the faster shipping


Come SATURDAY morning the item has still not shipped.
-Have emailed them regarding the shipping, they apologized and left it at that.

I have replied to them stating how unhappy I am with this. This etailer offers a price match/beat option, have referred them to this in my email, asking them to give me the $20 refund to match the price..OR.. if they cant do that I cancel my order, get my refund, go elsewhere.

I need this part for a build, I have a deadline. The longer I have to wait, the shorter time I have to build, install and troubleshoot if there are any issues.

Not happy.

 

So you get home from work on a Friday evening, it's been another long day in a long ass week. It's not quite time to go to bed, so you fire up your gaming PC for a quick game of something before you call it a night to take your mind off things. Still minus the 28" monitor that went faulty earlier, but no big deal, the other two will do. So you get into Windows and then spend the next 2 hours trying to figure out and fix the cause of Steam throwing registry, memory mapping and "failed to initialize" errors every time you try to do something. I was playing CSS on this last night for a couple of hours and it was fine.

FML. Seriously.

 

I worked 11 hours today till 9pm no big deal im transferring the first 15gb of music to my new ipod (thanks mulberry ) its 12.18 and i have to be up 8.30 to do another 8 hour shift on the worst day of the week

I'm up at 9 for a 9 hour 'un. The joys. On the plus side there might be a break in the rain so I could ride to work which puts me in a good mood and wakes me up nicely.

 

I'm in the ******* with a woman and it's not my fault and she's being ridiculously unreasonable.

Been feeling down in the dumps most of this week, and for some reason it feels like none of my friends want to talk to me even though I can't think of any thing I've said or done to any of them to upset them, of course it could just all be in my head but still! And I can't sleep as per normal

 

My ex-girlfriend - who I still like very much - is visiting from America. I'm happy to see her, and she's happy to see me. Unfortunately, I am a jealous ex and am spending far too much time picturing exactly what I will do to any of my friends foolish enough to make a move on her. They know the score, but I'm still annoyed that (a) this still bothers me and (b) I don't trust her, or some of them, enough to just to say no.

 

Don't worry about it, just keep yourself in check worst to worst. And trust me I was a bit of the jealous ex. But sometimes, you just need to let go you know?

 

It's been a very low key week. After telling off the guys for what they did earlier on (its behind a page) another friend decided to post a video to a group where one of the "friends" decided to make a completely unneccessary comment that directly attacked me. Me being me, I just ignored it but really don't understand how immature they could be. They're still upset I'm bailing on a trip for surgery and because I flipped out I'm the one that's being hard-headed.

Only good thing is my best friend is coming home tonight / tomorrow and he agrees with how I acted.

Girl troubles, known this girl a few years, we talk on and off. We started talking 3 weeks ago, hung out for a few hours and it was cool. We don't text all day but when we do text we end up going back and forth for a good 3-4 hours, I'd say 2-4 times a week. Anywho, the last 2 weeks we were supposed to hang out she bailed, but I understand shes busy with work and has strict parents. Anywho, we were supposed to go out tonight but she wasn't sure if she's allowed. Why does it seem that "i'll get back to you" turns into a very last minute thing. Still waiting on a response and I am kinda doubting she'll even be allowed to go. It's been the only thing I've had to look forward to since Tuesday and now if it's a last minute bail thing I'll spend my saturday night alone playing games wishing I was doing other things...

I should add we aren't dating but I figure if we're both putting in the effort always texting until 2am and always talking even when we should be sleeping because we need to get up early for work than there is something there. I do really like her too so this is all just throwing me off.

Ninja edit: She answered when she got home from work at 7:30 and said she had to wait for her mother to get home and she'd ask. Her mom didn't get home until 8:15, and apparently 8:15 is too late for a 20 year old to go out. There goes tonights plans.

Because of all the crap that's been happening, I am actually somewhat looking forward to going back to school so atleast I have something to do. The summer flew by and I should not want it to end...

And my monitor just went belly-up. There goes most of this months paycheck on a new U2410..

 

When you say 'belly-up', what exactly do you mean? Is that faulty 2410 going to be 'going spare' by any chance? Could be useful to me...
