I do feel kind of cheeky complaining about being too light as so many people have a hard time with losing weight! I also doubt being underweight is as bad as being overweight.

It gets to be a problem when you're thin to the point of having a hard time finding clothes, though. Or anything else that is based off of height and weight, really. Skis of the right length are always heavier than I'd like, or vice versa. Backpacks (hiking, not school) capable of carrying more than a weekend's supply of gear need custom fit belts in order to cinch down on my waist. Anything involving sizing is always either a compromise or involves some form of tailoring/customization.

But the worst part is the weakness and frailty that comes with it. Automatic child safety airbags? Typically can't trigger them. Ever leaned on a push door (unlocked, perfectly operational) and had it not even budge? Or even worse: ever pushed such a door after unsuccessfully leaning only to end up sliding back from it? Happens every once in awhile in a certain building on campus, not exactly good for the self esteem. Also terrible for self esteem is being asked to move or lift perfectly normal objects and being unable to, happens all the time being a "strong young man" and I absolutely dread it. That's really the root of it: It's very immasculating.

It also doesn't make me feel particularly attractive. I accept myself as who I am and have a fair deal of confidence in myself, but part of the acceptance is understanding that there are plenty of problems. I like to wear jeans and long sleeves whenever possible to cover up my chicken legs and twig arms. God forbid I have to take off my shirt and show my complete lack of chest muscle and ribs and collar bones constantly jutting out, if swimming wasn't so uncomfortable in a shirt I'd never take it off in public. Being so skinny isn't exactly unattractive but I'd sure feel a lot better with some more bulk and muscle tone.

Didn't really mean to ramble on like that, but it's nice to vent sometimes.

See first point in previous post of mine (post #6118). Know it didn't go to plan for me. Then understand why I hate my lack of confidence. It makes me paranoid enough to not stop thinking about it, but then makes me not speak up when I'm around her. :worried:

And, as before, I KNOW what I need to do, I just haven't grown the right pair yet. :wallbash:

Roll on Saturday, Laser Quest on a Uni social (though she IS one of the social secs). If I don't ask then, I'm not sure I'm going to do so.

And NOW you want me to become the next 'girl advice' thread. No can do. Check back after the weekend in the 'makes your life awesome' thread to see if I've posted. If not, you already know the result. :nono:

Its snowing.... in October.... I'm dressed in shorts, a t-shirt, and converse, and I'm very cold.

I don't have any winter jackets at my apartment either, and I won't be able to get any until I go home the weekend after next.

    Sloth, I'm 6' 6" and weigh 116. Pounds.

I understand. I've lost a lot of weight from the ulcers this time, but I never get above about 135 any more. And underweight is far more lethal than overweight. Heart deregulates and all, hence why I'm on heavy supplements.

As for me, have to schedule an endoscopy cause my stomach needs poked from the inside with a flashlight. Also, it will be surgery to correct various stomach issues.

I know that feel! I had to have the belts on my hiking rucksack sewn up to minimum size, and the damned thing still moved around - and I get my belts custom-made through necessity as well as vanity. I'm not even particularly thin - 6', about 135lbs.

Is yours the result of a bona fide condition, or is it a lifestyle thing?

How much swimming do you do? Is this a daily thing for a sustained period?

If so the chances are that you are chronically undereating, which will do it!

Also, "eating when you fancy it" is not the best way to gain weight, in fact eating when your body is hungry is just about the best thing you can do to lose it / maintain it! :D

You should eat more if you hold out until your stomach is rumbling - give that a go?

In a bad period about now. I've lost all enthusiasm for my work at the moment. If my boss wasn't such a w4nker works issues would be fine. The actual work itself, programming etc I still enjoy but the office is a crap environment.

Home life is depressing at the moment. I feel since I've lost a lot of weight my GF doesn't trust me around other women. Thing she doesn't understand is I love her, but she's pushing me away with every question that comes out of her mouth. Feel like I can't go out because there's girls there, can't watch a film because there's sex scenes. Got a few Christmas parties to go to this year which she's not going to but she's making me feel guilty as sin about going because there will be "tarts!". It's doing my head in. Been with her for five and a half years now and this is probably the lowest moment of it so far.

Money worries, bought a house this month, wondering how I'm going to be able to afford everything. Had to replace the kitchen which I really didn't want to do. And most walls are having to be re-plastered as the wallpaper is bringing all the wallpaper off with it.

On the upside, new kitchen arrives today and I have 8 days holiday left to use in the next two months.

I'm the only person in the technical department today. One engineer is off all week as it is half term, my boss is off today because it is a Friday and he fancied the day off (nowt wrong with that at all) and the other engineer is off today as his girlfriend went into labour last night.

That leaves me to answer 4 lots of phone calls, emails and internal inquiries as well as work on the projects I have going on at the moment.

    I tell you, it's a good job I'm awesome...

Had to drop a course because the T.A. doesn't believe in part marks, so now I'm going to have to deal with 6 courses instead of 5 next semester or summer school which i'd rather not due to 1) its summer and 2) it would probably cost a heck of a lot of money since the course is mandetory so they can inflate the price. 2 summers ago I had to pay 900 bucks for a damn java programming class.

Why I hate this class: all the in class work and textbook work are simple and straight forward, all the assignments are rediculously more complex. We do most of the work in excel, yet the first test he gave us a piece of paper, no calculator and said good luck. That really threw people off. I did pretty badly on the 1st test but everyone said the 2nd is easier. Planned to stick around and do well on the weekly assignments but the last assignment I failed for no apparent reason. The T.A. posted the answers and I forgot 1 thing, and had 1 of 5 things wrong. Theoretically that's still 3/5 completed so 60% but he decided I deserved a 30 instead.

There aren't enough swear words to describe how upset / dissapointed I am right now. Ughh. On top of all this, been saving for a new pc, but about 2 months ago I started getting pain in my feet, thought it was gout or a fracture, it is neither. Still have the pain, haven't been able to work so I can't afford a new pc unless I take money out of the bank, but than I have no spare cash for when christmas comes around. I'm really starting to get frustrated with school, and whatever is crippling me. It's prevented me from doing a lot of stuff since I can't really run or do anything that requires any physical effort.

I don't believe it's any condition, at my last physical about two years ago (pretty much the same height/weight) the topic came up and the doc essentially said it sound like a lifestyle thing (my sympathies Kayin, can only imagine how bad you've got it with a serious medical cause!). No time for breakfast in the morning, often working through lunch, eating not particularly nutritious dinners. My daily diet is something like a 6oz pack of mixed nuts for lunch and a can of soup for dinner, some common sense guestimations say that's probably not enough.

To be honest it wasn't something which really struck me as a problem until earlier this month when a woman at work asked if I had an eating problem and needed help (that sounds rude, but it was delicately put). Never thought anything was particularly different about my eating until that eye opener.

Used to swim three days a week but since the last year or so easy pool access hasn't been available and had to give it up.

So far I have made a bit of a better diet plan. Basically involves working in a regular meal schedule rather than the current "when hungry" one. Light breakfast like toast in the morning, no more skipping lunch, and having more well rounded meals for dinner. Replacing canned soup or fast food with more nutritious things so I get more out what I eat, a lot easier than simply trying to eat more all at once. I'm no chef but that's no excuse for laziness, plenty of healthy things like steamed vegetables and boiled chicken breast are easy to make and take only a bit of time and effort.

Now I feel bad for you :-/

I'm fat but at least I'm also very strong because I have had to carry that extra weight around my whole life. Actually, maybe I should say I 'used to be' strong because my age (mixed with my weight) is catching up. I'm only 26 but my body hurts constantly. My back is pathetic and I can't give much of an effort at doing anything these days without getting hurt. Hell, even sitting down hurts because of my freaking BELT.

I played badminton two days ago and I sucked (compared to 60lb ago) but at least, this time, I didn't destroy my back so I might go back soon

Only 900? Lucky you, that is community college rates around here (for a 3 credit course). If I want to take a course outside of the 16 or 17 I'm allowed in a semester, I'm looking at $634 US per credit. If I want to take a course over the summer or over winter break, I'm paying the whole thing out of pocket, seeing as financial aid and scholarships don't count towards summer/winter semesters. A 3 credit summer course would cost me $1902 for a regular 3 credit course, plus books, fees, etc.

In case you didn't know, you can steam chicken breast as well - even easier if you buy a couple of them and some fresh vegetables. Set the steamer going, wait half an hour or whatever, and you've got a meal which only took one pan.

Also fish as well in the same manner. Try and go for smoked fish (if you like it) as steaming tends to make things a little bland.

To make the chicken more interesting in a steamer cut a little hole or pocket into it and put some herbs or seasoning. If you like chili powder, a bit of that will work too. Maybe some dry BBQ rubbing seasoning.

Having said that, if you don't need to go for "one pan" dishes to make things more encouraging, don't ;)

You might want to try also:

Get some diced meat - whatever you like basically, chicken and pork work well
    Chop an onion into chunks
Slice a bell pepper or two
Chop a couple of tomatoes in half

Bake all of this in a tray with a little healthy oil (olive oil or groundnut work fine) and sprinkle on some chopped dried (or fresh) garlic, or fajita seasonings, or bbq seasonings ... great tray bake and easy to make several portions if you're entertaining. You just put in more!

    Hit a dog while doing 70 km/h on a national highway :(

I stopped and looked around but no dog or owner was to be seen. Please dog-owners, keep your pets on a leash.
