Got summons for court for council tax I only started working Monday wasn't liable

How the heck am I meant to live for a month on nothing! And pay a £300 council tax

This is what you get I guess for coming off benefits and finding a job to support your own family

Are you able to choose to pay monthly by direct debit?

Show up to court, represent your side of the case to your best efforts with paperwork to prove it, and ask the magistrate to dismiss the judgement as you are trying to better yourself and family. Missing a single month of council tax isn't a big deal.

Agreed, make sure you turn up and they will be far happier to come to an arrangement than force you back on to benefits.

Council tax seems to be very black and white to me.

Me and the GF where given a final notice to pay an extra £700 when we first moved into our house, this was in back dated payments from the year previous. We had moved in on 1st of Feb and the charges backdated to October the previous year!

The stupid thing is we where to first occupants and the house is brand new and exempt from council tax until deemed liveable.

I refused to pay of course, and where threaten with court proceedings. I visited the CT office a number of times, provided copies of our mortgage agreement, completion letters etc. the bills kept coming, it took 3 months to sort it all out.

They essentially tried to bully us into paying a bill that should never have been sent, and threatened us with court action. I'm kind of upset it did get resolved, I was looking forward to destroying them in court.

The system has no flexability, you either pay it or you are criminal scum...

Being an old git, the word "Vaping" reminds me of an old 2000AD story from around 1980 - The V.C.s

Ordered headlight bulbs for my car a couple of days ago based on the pre-facelift bulb types instead of the facelift model. I needed two pairs of H7s instead of a pair of H1s and a pair of H7s :(

If she's over 60, it's an unofficial golden years law to rank the TV up louder and louder.

When my Dad turned 60, the TV volume went sky high.

Every time I visit my parents, if they're watching TV, I have to leave the room over fear of my ears starting to bleed.

 I wonder if you can get an induction loop transmitter to plug into a headphone socket?
