Thank you, that's very kind, But i can not accept.

It is my own fault having just been up to York to visit the Mallard 75 exhibition and then a trip to London 3 days later to (ironically) play on Xbox One. It is obvious i couldn't have two cakes and eat them, Although, two Cheesecakes would go down very well right now :thumb:

It can be but it depends on the number of occupants and usage. On avg 2 occupants will pay less on a water meter than paying water rates. Anyway you're not on a water meter

Ouch, I only pay ~£20-25 a quarter for water ( metered, single occupant ), and now us lot in Devon get a £12 discount per bill due to having the highest water rates in the country ( largest stretch of coastline to keep clean )....

Ruining my life: work college decided he was ill, so muggins gets to work 10-3.30, then 6.30-finish today. Makes it worse when I know he isn't ill and just didn't want to work today as we were having a new dishwasher fitted in the kitchen & he didn't want to have to deal with helping wash dishes by hand, even though it's dead in the afternoon with hardly any customers & he was up the potwash end anyway...

That's assuming the supplier reads the meter at all, both my water and gas have tried to give me bills based on made up numbers, because why charge accurately when you can put five times the correct amount onto the DD and hope customers don't notice...

Damn our life's right? we don't even have beaches in Plymouth! I travel to bloody looe every time i want a bit of beach!

Going into the council tomorrow to hopefully prove I'm an apprentice and shouldn't be getting charged these stupid amounts.

Unfortunately your job won't have much to do with it as you're earning. The council simply charges council tax based on the banding of the property you live in. It only discounts that rate if you're living on your own - which I believe isn't the case for you is it? - or if you're on certain benefits and sometimes not even then. And they don't deal with water rates at all.

    For me:

    £392 rent
    £0 insurance ( you mean car I'm guessing? )
£78 council tax ( band C I think, 2 bed room flat ), after 25% single person discount
£4 water ( equivalent of 1 months worth of the quarterly bill, after discount )
    £40 electric
No gas, only electric in the flats
    £45ish food
    No petrol
    £27 BT
    £10 TV license

    Total £596

I would look into your water usage based on how many people live there- 2/3 people will use a fair bit what with laundry, showering, dishes etc etc, and check your council tax band/if you are normally living there on your own.

Car insurance is gonna be the killer thing in your case, one of the various reasons I don't drive ( see also: I played Wipeout on PS1 & 2, I steer by bouncing off walls at high speed... :worried: )- you may need to think about whether you really need a car for work, or if a bike/scooter ( the horror.. ) would be better for just commuting vs carrying cargo.

Like the others said, your job won't make any difference to what the council or water company charge you- at best you could claim 25% discount for council tax if you live alone normally. Might wanna look around for cheaper car insurance if you can, or think about the bike option if you don't regularly carry lots of stuff from a to b...

Really; I save up a fair bit of washing & laundry and do it all at the same time ( eat mainly at work, don't spend long in the shower, so many black T-shirts & joggers... ). I just don't need to use much water if you aren't running a full sink every day for a few plates and dishes, or not running the washing machine every day or two for the sake of a few items of clothes. It's a skill only us social hermits learn to perfect...

Ruining my life ( in the last 2 minutes, da fuq... )- facebook has only now just decided to show me a message from Ebuyer saying I won a runner-up prize in a competition they did back in July- the message is dated 1st August. F*ck sake, how hard can it be to forward the message to my email address, or show the big red notification icon at the top of the screen when I log in to say I have a new message- I would have missed it still if it wasn't for me spotting the small grey '1' next to the pale grey 'other' heading under notifications ( which has never been there until just now ).

Not sure what's worse, facebook losing messages or hiding them, or google+ screwing up youtube completely just to try and justify its pointless continued existence....

    That's what I'll do!

Sell Car, Move property, Invest in quad bike, buy this!

    Sorted!

Cheaper rent, Cheaper insurance (quads are classed as PLG) been quoted £500/year before (it also builds car no claims up)

I know the councils don't deal with water :duh:

people on apprentice schemes <--- That's me right?
children under 18 <--- that's my daughter right?

So kick my partner out and that should bring that damn bill down!

The last month has seen the most dramatic turn-around in my finances it's unreal

    • No problems with anything 'household'
    • Due to be doing some extra work (GCSE marking) worth many £100s - nice (not so) little bonus in time for Christmas

    Today (List in chronological order)
    • Bought 2 Sonos Play:1s as an early treat as I knew I would be doing lots of GCSE marking which is hard work but worth it both financially and from the professional development side of things (counting chickens before they hatch and all that not normally a good idea but I couldn't resist)
    • Kitchen bin lid snapped off - bought new bin
    • Cold tap in kitchen stopped working - bought new tap and paid to have it fitted
    • Storm snapped one of our fence posts in half taking two panels with it - these need replacing (and the chap we normally use won't respond to our emails)
    • My car needed new rear brake discs and pads to pass its MOT
    • Wife's car needs new rear brakes (plus possibly more) as they've seized up meaning it won't move
    • PSU in my rig seems to have gone pop - in warranty but still going to cost a small fortune in postage to return
    • GCSE marking cancelled as f*****g Michael Gove has decided to fiddle around with the school league tables and, as a result, most schools have withdrawn pupils from their exams in November

    B*llocks...

Edit: Oh and I had an IBM SSK (look it up :)) delivered yesterday only for it to turn out to be faulty / broken. Whilst the seller has fully refunded me, and it may yet be repairable, it still means that I've waited a month or more for a keyboard that doesn't work out of the box...

I'd like to buy a quad-bike as cheap insurance/petrol but I know for a second it'd get robbed outside my home, outside my work, heck anywhere!

Standing charge is only a percentage of the water used ( on my bills anyway ) in terms of ££- I hardly use any water so standing charge is tiny per quarter, thus my average water rates are only ~£12 a quarter after the £12.50 government contribution ( obviously closer to £25-30 a quarter before that scheme kicked in, but the standing charge is maybe ~£4-6 of the total bill each quarter )...

Ruining my life, re: yesterdays issue- replied to the message from Ebuyer about my unclaimed prize from their competition, got a message back saying very sorry but all prizes have been handed out. How could they have been if I didn't claim mine? Arseholes, I want my random Microsoft PC accessory... bleh.

EDIT: I always wanted a quadbike too, a nice onroad one ( they exist.. ). I did some research and apparently you can own one & drive it on a CBT ( limited to 125cc ofcourse ), then any power you want on a full bike or car license. You can't however do your CBT on a quad, which is a pile of **** as far as I'm concerned. I failed my CBT ( it's possible?.. ) as I've never driven a scooter or motor bike, had trouble doing the stupid figure of eight turns on the awful manky old scooter- wearing a massive helmet with no peripheral vision and awful old gloves that didn't fit properly didn't exactly help. On a mountain bike I'm fine, and on a quad I'm certain I would have passed no problem, but never mind eh- good old public transport & my own two legs get me about...

Sir John Tavener passed away today. One of the oldest Marfan's sufferers. Doesn't exactly fill me with hope, he had a LOT of health problems.

Getting sick of the word 'Fundamentally'.. people at work really don't understand what it means and tend to use it in every sentence; it's driving me insane..

Using fundamentally every other sentence is literally the worst thing i can imagine anyone doing. Ever.
