The theory is that it'll cut down on Teenage show-boating if someone over the age of 30 is in the car, as well as forbidding anyone under the age of 30 in the car at the same time. Hopefully this is one of those laws that'll wind up stillborn, but it's going to upset a heck of a lot of teenagers plans if this does come into effect. ( The Report this law is based on had some very nice "ONE HUNDRED PERCENT OF ALL CRASHES ARE CAUSED BY TEENAGE DRIVERS"* statistics in it.)

    ( * May be Hyperbole. )

I'm hoping it doesn't in case i ever decide to re-take my test. I've easily had at least 60 hours tuition and sat my test but failed, 12 years ago. If I needed to do another 120 hours of lessons before i was allowed to re-sit, no chance, i just wouldn't bother. And needing to find another person my age to supervise me after curfew? AHAHAHAH, good luck enforcing that on people over the age of 30.

this sounds like a move designed to get young people driving, then getting jobs as driving instructors. I don't see a flaw in the model where a person learns until their instructor says 'you're good enough to take your test' then takes a test which determines whether or not they can drive competently enough. If it's not working, then make tests easier/harder, or certify instructors to a higher level to adjust as required.

It'd get some support form the older generations maybe. I'm thinking of that episode of the simpsons where the old people introduce a curfew for the adults.

edit: Also, i came to this thread to say, CVEs are currently ruining my life/day/weekend (not lifeday weekend).

The country would enter a state of chaos if those laws were ever enacted.

Rural teenagers would begin to kill themselves and others with sheer boredom.

Driving license can be funny. I got mine with 25 hours of driving. I haven't driven at all in the year and a bit since then and probably won't for the next 4 years either. I'm certainly not going to be safe when I get a car.

Intel 82579V. Or P8Z77-V. Or the Linux e1000e driver. It must be one of them - the integrated LAN on the motherboard is freezing after few minutes to few hours and resets itself; and sometimes it succeeds, sometimes it doesn't. So i had to turn it off and use a USB3/Gigabit ethernet adapter on my router/server, because the onboard Intel LAN is not reliable :wallbash:.

Too late :( There were about 15 of them there - think it was a 60th birthday dinner for one of her relatives.

I try to avoid this thread. But this time...

Every.Single.Plan I've had for my thirtieth birthday (this Saturday) is being raept.
First, the idea (and it was announced months ago) to go to a dam 70km out of town, and spend the weekend. That way everyone can have a good time, get out of town, and relax a bit.
two weeks ago, the one dam's reservation p*sses in my battery by creating a logisitcal f*ckup involving double bookings, etc. I called friends of friends of acquaintances to try to sort it out, no go.
Last week, the OTHER (plan B) dam tells me that they don't have enough space. But they want to book 15 people onto one campsite. So I decide that it's better than nothing, and want to confirm who's coming. Of the original 15 people, 2 (WTF!!! 2!!!) are keen. So there goes that idea. Plan C then.
Plan C involves booking the clubhouse at the place I stay at. It's got a pool, a Braai area (BBQ/Grill depending on where you are) and space. Yesterday I get told that there's NO WAY I can book it, since I only RENT the place I stay in (for 5 years now). Only owners can book, with three weeks lead time. This, after I booked last year without problems.

The "silver lining" in this case is a friend that's talking to his wife about whether we could do it at his place, and the mother-in-law-to-be that's looking after a REALLY nice place with a heated pool and whatnot. Both are still up in the air, and really, plan D if anything.

Right now, the level of urine in my Birthday cake is rising.

why don't you ask the landlord to book the room for you on your behalf? Cover any costs and say it's for your 30th birthday.

    Surely this should be okay?

Good idea, if my landlord was reachable at all.
He's so distant from the whole thing that I see him once every few years. I occasionally deal with his secretary, who forgets to send me stuff (or to tell me that rent was increased). I have not had a contract in 3 years.
I don't REALLY mind - I rent for a bargain price, but at times like this my landlord is less useful than t*ts on a board.

I just made that up, because I knew there was one MAYBE REMOPTELY like that and couldn't remember it. Rather than try to express how truly useless he is in that regard (I tried calling - no answer from him or his secretary - he may well be on holiday already) any other way, I just made it up.

Either way, GF's mom to the rescue.
30 degree pool, beautiful lapa and a view. :)
