Bought a new car last weekend - however after driving it for 300 miles, it's showing some of the signs of a duff turbo. Going to get it checked out asap, but a bit of a bummer...

(It was fine on the test drive and for the first few days, but now it has a siren sound in the lower part of the rev range and it looks like there was a tiny bit of grey smoke earlier when pulling away from a roundabout)

Can you not send it back and only pay Royal Mail's £8 handling charge? I'm just arguing the technicalities. At this point you may as well pay and keep it.

Anything over £15 is liable to VAT, and since it's royalmail/parcel force that pays this fee and reclaims it from you ( = handling ), you are also hit with the £8-10 handling fee on top. Anything below £15 will just be delivered straight to your door with zero extra cost- it's all on the royalmail website...

    http://www.royalmail.com/personal/help-and-support/Ive-received-a-card-asking-for-a-payment

It's a painful lesson to learn, but when you buy from overseas a lot you get used to pretty quickly...

Usually buy tshirts and don't have any customs charges. I am just going to pay it and be done with it. It's money I didnt want to spend at the end of the day. Having to purchase new glasses and being a slight budget this month due to lack of overtime.

    Interesting.

I don't know what the cutoff for customs duty on items coming ito the US is, but I've never had to pay it. eBay and China post are my friends :)

my old man has "done his hip in" on Monday, i brought him over to mine to keep an eye on him but now i cant get the sod to leave, i don't have the facilities to look after someone who can barely walk, he wont home or go back to the hospital nor will he go to his GP.

he says he's fine but he can barely move, refuses to eat/drink properly and is argumentative and incredibly demanding. I disappeared for an hour to meet someone yesterday only to come back and find him covered in blood as he couldn't get to the bathroom to get toilet paper for a nosebleed.

I'm heading to his GP today to see about what care package I can get for him. he cant live on his own and yet my place is a builders yard with all the renovation going on, **** I've no hotwater/gas or heating at the moment whilst the boiler is being fitted nor do I have the mental fortitude to to counter his emotional blackmail.

If he finds out I'm going behind his back with this there'll be war, but what choice do I have

ex servicemen, they're stubborn as **** :wallbash:

Turns out the pump was dead. No sound at all from the pump when starting, the pump was getting power ok but just not doing anything.

That has been replaced and it is running great. Getting a new filter on Monday, it was going to be done at the same time but the supplier sent the wrong one!

Hopefully I won't jinx it, but it starts so beautifully well now. It has been a great car overall and any problems have been sorted out with minimal effort/cost.

Controlled Art/Photography course work at the Six Form site.

I've been based there all week, the students as usual have left it until the last minute to print and submit their portfolio.

I have pretty much been floating between the two iMac rooms nursing he printers back to health, recovering corrupt files from SD cards and memory sticks or showing a 2nd year art student how to use Photoshop/Illustrator.

It's all been really basic stuff, but it's staggering the lack of knowledge, especially as most of them are about to go to uni to study art/photography.

Stupid things like creating their documents in RGB mode instead of CMYK, or using Fine JPG/RAW files in their final project, then trying to print a 2gb illustrator file and wondering why it's ****ed the printer up!

I had people crying in my office because their work came out looking ****, they had been working in the wrong colour mode for the entire project! Sure the monitor RGB but the printer is a CMYK. I lost count of how many times I was told 'this printer is ****ing ****'....No, no you are ****, a few colour pallet tweets later and the version I printed out looked fine.

My friends an art student and is almost the same way, he seems to have no understanding of the education system at all.

I spent a weekend with him and his art student house mates and I nearly decided to leave and go home early because they spent so much time talking bull and no time actually learning anything... it was art talk.. against any form of authority crap

Whats ruining my life SLIGHTLY.... despite still being on cloud nine (which may last for months)

My work sucks monkey dick... I'm waiting on a reply from the guys interested in my project, if that doesn't pull through Ill be applying to Allen and Heath and getting some cash together enough for a few months rent to move down to cornwall assuming they hire me.

In an ideal world those guys would get back to me mid week and it would lead on to some form of low volume production or prototyping for one off bespoke production.

I've had enough... less staff, ******* food more customers... never going to work.

Its not like I ever intended to stay but I guess its a push in the right direction for me

well it took 8 hours, me, my old lady, a paramedic and 2 on call GP's to get my old man into hospital yesterday morning. blood infection, possible blood clotting/dvt in his legs and im still waiting to hear back from more tests, He's currently off his face on meds and is proving quite problematic for the staff. just received a call from the staff there, hes re enacting zulu on the ward with a drip stand convinced the Muslims are coming to kill him.

im heading in to sort the situation out

War. One of my best friends's brother was killed in the helicopter crash in Afghanistan yesterday. Desperately sad news, he was such a great guy and I'll miss him dearly; can't begin to think how the family are feeling. Not even a soldier, just a reservist from the intelligence corps.

Well, at least I don't have to resist from going there, someone else did it for me.

On a personal note; Dear god I'm unfit. Fifteen minute Circuit workout has damn near killed me in a single sitting.

Was rather a lot of fun, though, so I'll definitely be doing it again once I feel able.

Exams in the back of my mind....

I'm so out of my depth with one of them that I'm not even sure how I'm going to pass it, not to mention its my first one and in 4 days now, not feeling great about it at all.

The other two suck but I think I have a much better chance considering I have a few extra days to revise, I really don't want to be faced with resitting an exam in the summer

    RF and microwave techniques

The other two exams are fairly straight forward... my coursework marks are good enough for me to botch it at 30% and still pass if it went really bad.

This one if I got 31% I would pass.. but consider NEGATIVE marking on multiple choice elements and it could go horribly wrong.

My lecturer was good but he never had any form of plan... it was come in and just talk crap for 40 minutes and let us go... his portal page is not organized at all so im not even sure what I should be revising.

My other lecturer talked us through the entire exam questions in order but with different values... so I know 100% what I have to be revising.
