And even if you have one, the one you want is so much better.

We had ours done about 2 years ago. A few weeks after it settled and a couple of tiles cracked.

It took TWO YEARS of hassling the bloke who lives local ( see him about all the time) to get the bugger to come back.

My feeling is there are so many cowboy roofers because only roofers in general can get up there and see what is going on!

Take a look at a trade organisation called ATLAS (Association of Technical Lightning and Access Specialists). They are mainly lightning protection installers and steeplejacks but as more and more roofing companies are getting into lightning protection (pretty easy money for them) and ATLAS run accreditation courses, they may be able to point you in the right direction for someone reputable.

Right, so, a roofer came round and had a look. Sadly, the lump of flashing in the gutter is a red herring: the problem can really be traced back to Roofing Group UK. They reroofed with thick tiles, and where the tiles met next-door's slates they cemented the edge to 'seal' the gap. This is, I'm told, Not What You Do. What You Do is fit a bonding gutter: literally a gutter which sits under both the slates and the tiles and catches the water that slips through the gaps to take it down to the main gutter and away into the surface water drain.

So, What I Now Need is one of them. He's coming back to me with a quote, but warned it wouldn't be cheap (but when is anything roof-related ever cheap)?

Between the original cost of the reroof and the cost of all the reparative work I've had to have done over the years, Roofing Group UK has taken me for thousands. Naturally, the company no longer exists so I'm SOL warranty (or legal proceedings) wise.

Oh, and it's nearly 1100 and I haven't even *started* the day's work, despite having several deadlines looming including a 50% deadline on the new revision of the book which *has* to be in by the end of the week.

    Here endeth the rant.

    The chair should help.

About three years ago now my uncle had symptoms very similar to yours. He was fine at Christmas, spent it with his family, but come February he had terrible back pain. IIRC he was diagnosed with Abestosis.

I've been trying to think of something to say to you all night but just can't really. I really hope the pain meds help and you are more comfortable.

A very minor thing but, I just... misplaced a foot going down the stairs. It now hurts like a fiend, won't take my weight, and I can't bend my little toe...

I did that while carrying a box of books. Hurt like billy-o and went a very interesting shade of black, but healed reasonably quickly. Pro-tip: if you need to do any walking in the near future, snag yourself a cheap wooden walking stick and cut it to length. It'll save you a reasonable amount of pain and promote healing, with the added bonus that you can pretend to be Dr. Gregory House and be mean and sarcastic to people. Remember: it's never lupus, except for that one time it was.

Stop procrastinating and write yer book. :p

I find writing to a deadline tends to result in poor quality. But your a professional writer so it's probably no big deal.

I'm sporting a fractured metatarsal and a cane at the moment. It's possible that I may have been telling people at work that it's never lupus. I don't work in medicine...

Exactly. He was the best House. In fact, I think I might use having to elevate my foot as an excuse to watch the first season again.

Got an appointment to see the local nurse, so I'll hobble (hop!) along there at two o'clock to see what she says. Normally a three minute walk to the practice; I've given myself fifteen.

Cane, sorted. Thanks for the thought, it would have dawned on me eventually...

Just had a call from my girlfriends father, he needs to be in the village anyway, so will give me a lift to the practice.

Divorce has started, the to be ex is not gonna like the reasons, the solicitors really want the dirt.

If she's smart she'll just sign and move on, seeing as she's about to pop out someone else's child

I suspect "The dirt" is the last 5 words of Goldstar's post.

For what it's worth, look after your self now, don't go the wrong way about this, it's bad but it's not the end of the world and there will be some one else in time, I can't even relate to this it would completely wipe me off the surface of normality. Don't do any thing stupid to yourself or others and get past this with as much care as you can, be well rested eat well exercise and use the issue as a source of energy for life change.

It's better to voice up support than be silent and some one be in distress doing some thing bad mistake.

If I can ask, how are you so sure it's not yours? Understood you have some idea about some one else but only way you can know this is if you not there or you are firing blanks?

Plenty more fish in the sea mate, keep chin up!!

    Thanks for the kind words

Already moved on emotionally and physically, we separated Dec 2014, wasn't easy but good friends and family helped me.
I've kept the "unreasonable behaviour" reasons as pleasant as possible, I didn't want to accuse an affair, not worth the fight.

As for the baby, as she's due in March and we've not spoken or seen each other in a year can gladly say it's not mine.

Scary thing is, in my depressed state I was wishing all sorts on her but obviously don't want any harm to her really however I did say to some people karma for how she treated me would be to get pregnant!
