I was talking to some one today that is looking at a BMW, he is rich money is not really an object here under £60k to £100k, I expect is his budget.

I said to him what about Audi and he said he was looking at the S6, I said what about the M6, and we both started to get a feel for a good car talk but I was really busy so I said Id look into it.

What is the best Hackback for a famliy man car and why. Some thing with a bit of poke and a bit special.

Obviously BMW are pretty hard to beat?

Audi Ive heard bad storys about (even thou the S8 is the poo for me personally).

    Options ?

    What's a 'hackback'? :eyebrow:

The Audi S6 and BMW M6 can hardly be defined as hatchbacks anyway, they're high performance saloons.

The m6 isn't a hatchback OR an estate: it's a high performance coupe and barely fits four people. Does the OP like, know what he's doing, at all? I suggest he buy a copy of top gear magazine.

Have a look at the RS6 avant, M5 estate, E63 estate. They're all in the same league of flipping fast family cars that aren't ridiculous jeeps.

That's an estate car (a BMW M5 estate)... an M6 is a low slung coupe... May I ask what your friend has been taking?

There aren't all that many crazy fast estate cars, the AMG E-Class Merc would probably give it a run for it's money, as would a top end Jaguar and S-line Audis but Saab/Volvo/everybody else don't really have anything to match them.

If I had to have a go-fast hatchback it'd have to be either a Golf R32/GTi or a Focus RS, though I would much rather have a rally car :p

I have a better idea though; buy an alright estate car, say a 3 litre 5 series Beemer, then get a superbike, something like a Ducati 1198 ought to do the trick, then he'll know the true meaning of what 'fast' is.

AMG E63, Audi RS6, Beemer M5 When you're looking for big luxury sedan.
POSSIBLY (though not as quick, AFAIK), the Volvo S60 R-Design with the upcoming Polestar Mapping. Make sure to not bother with anything but the T6 AWD in this segment though.
    Maybe A Jag?

If you're looking for Hatchbacks, then VW Golf R, Audi RS3, Audi S3, Focus RS, Alfa Guilietta QV, etc

Edit: Just for clarification, I am deliberately ignoring the request for Estates, as a M6 is clearly not an estate

    ^^ Good point...
Sorry... my mind was on vehicles I could actually buy in this country... hence I tend to forget certain brands...

Jaguar XF R is pretty tasty, but is only a salon. Audi RS6 Avant would be my choice. Although, if i had 100k, i would just go to the Aston Martin dealer and see what i can get there...

Would definitely be my luxo-barge of choice

It isn't as technically adept as the others, or as quick, not as comfortable or reliable, and undoubtedly not as good value, but that look, and that noise... mmmmmmmmmmmmm

I know two owners of the Quattroporte and both insist it's a fantastic car to use daily, and both have been reliable. In terms of speed, we're splitting hairs too.

It's a genuine contender in that category - I wouldn't even dream of an Audi over one.

The bottom line is that at that price point, you need to make a decision: Fast, comfy or fun?

You can have two, but not three.
    Fast & Comfy - buy a German.
Fast & Fun - buy something Italian
Comfy & Fun - buy a hot hatch (sreiously - can't think of anything that I would give this description right off the bat)

Personally, I drive a Fiat - a car that's not quite as good as a Golf, but WAY more fun. It's an Italian thing - I'd go for the Maser any single day of the week. It's bound to be a car that you can get into every single day and smile when you do.
