I've just got an old Tower case in a job lot of old PC gear and I want to do a bit of modding on it...whats the best way to cut holes in it to add acrylic windows? And where can I get the Acrlic panels from?
If it's steel then cutting is not too easy as it is a hard material. Aluminium is easier. Cut with a Jigsaw, dremel or pretty much any cutting tool really. Down to preference mainly! Talk to a plastic supplier for acryilic. Also sold in Hardware stores (B&Q, Homebase, etc.)
I had good results with a dremel with great details and it was my first time using it. I used the small standard cutting wheels. My side panel is made of steel so I ended up using well over 50 cutting wheels. They break all the time so wear safety gogles. Home Depot sells clear plexi/lexan glass for about $15.00 for a 24" X 72" X 1/8" sheet. I'm still looking for UV reactive plexi glass.
Sounds like a bit of a UL to me...if his urine could cut through lead I'd hate to be blind and go for a piss!!!!
A jigsaw is by far the better tool to cut through a metal PC case. Only use a dremel for small cutting jobs where a jigsaw would be impractical.
