When you can suck your belly right in?

Just figured out how to do it myself and it's very freaky. :D

This may shed some light... basically looks to be a yoga technique
Also can see it in incredible hulk movie, when he's learning to meditate in Brazil. But they all seem to have great ab muscle control in addition to just sucking in.

    Thanks very much. :)

Yeah, I have pretty solid abs, and I would have a solid 6 and possibly an 8 pack if I didn't have my excess skin. But it seems to be the technique that you need to learn and not the strength of your mid section. I can breath in all the way, but tis about it atm, heh.

I didn't know that knowing how to suck your mid section in was a technique. It was just something that I learned how to do as a kid. like being able to move my ears.

It is how children breath and is very natural to do. As adults we stop doing it and just use the lungs.

If you learn to breath from your belly well, you can get really big deep breaths in a short space of time. Excellent for calming yourself down after exercise or catching your breath.

Controlling your belly when it's sucked in all the way (not just sucking your bottom half in) and being able to control it is a lot harder than you think i.e. in intervals.

Yoga is a perfect example of how breathing can make a huge different, if you relax your breathing before hand you'll have a great session, but rush straight into it and it will suck, big time.

Something to try. Imagine someone has put there knee into your lower back so it curves heavily while keeping your back upright. This will open your chest and should give you more control on your lower belly for even deeper breathing.

    :hehe: Are you serious?

I don't know if this has a proper technical term, but we just call it "sucking your gut in" and i don't know what age it is generally learnt, but everyone knows how to do it by kindergarten around here :hehe:

    Meh...

I don't mean "just" sucking in, I can do a lot more than that, I just cant control my abs to move one side to the other, yet.

Oh ok, that's a little different, and it could come in handy as a party trick!
