So, whats the POP3 for Gmail and Hotmail and Yahoo mail? I'd like to use them with outlook or such... Many thanks! myth
u need to enter the address of your outgoing server, its probably smtp.gmail.com yahoo is pop.mail.yahoo.com, outgoing for that would be smtp.mail.yahoo.com
You're not looking in the instructions, that's what you're doing wrong Seriously, you could have sorted it out in about 30 seconds flat if you'd bothered.
You can only use Hotmail with your email client (or outlook at least) if it was either opened before a certain date (can't remember what the date is though) or if you upgrade to Hotmail Plus/Premium . My Hotmail account is about 8 years old and connects without a problem to my email client, but Dad's is a couple of months old and get's an error message stating that it can't be used without a subscription. I'm sure I read on the microsoft website somewhere that all Hotmail accounts will need to be upgraded to plus/premium to connect to an email client before long .
You ahve to enable pop in gmail first. Go to google and find the Thunderbird help page, then go to the forums and find the gmail/pop access section and there is a bit about gmail. (btw <- google style, i did this and found the answer fair quick.)
you can get gmail pop by enabling it in your settings (log into account, settings pop etc) and then downloading the automatic config tool (you can set it up manually but from what i've seen you'll be best with the auto installer lol) hotmail stopped pop access quite a while ago, but you can still get hotmail pop by using Hotpop (full instructions are on their site I have no idea about yahoo, never used them Hope this helps
Has no-one actually noticed that his mistake is entering POP instead of POP3 ya'll read to much into things sometimes . Death
POP is correct as POP3 includes the protocol (POP) and the version (3). IIRC POP4 is the current version no.
For Yahoo, using Thinderbird, the setting are: Enable POP on the account settings web page, then in TB: Incoming mail server is- pop.mail.yahoo.com Outgoing mail sever is- smtp.mail.yahoo.com The first time it will ask your password, and if you like, you just tell it to remember it.
In Gmail click Settings (top right corner of the page) Then click forwarding and pop Here is where you enable pop collection. On the same page, under Pop Download: click learn more All the info you need is there. Gmail has an auto-config tool for most email clients - click How do I configure my mail client? And all the basic settings are listed under Other on the mail client page. In fact I'll paste them here to save your clicking finger...
Yahoo disabled pop access several years ago, now you have to pay for it. I'm not sure when hotmail disabled theirs, I never used their services enough to care.
