http://news.sympatico.msn.ctv.ca/To...temid=CTVNews/20080327/halifax_beating_080327 Coming from Halifax, and living in Alberta now, I try whenever possible to tell people what a great place halifax is. But a story like this just makes me want to hang my head in shame. I know that there is a lot of low income people there, and that leads to drugs and violence. I just wish that people would see that there are other ways to living, instead of thinking that beating someone to the point where you cant regonize them is a good idea. glad to hear that the girl involved got 5.5 years, and not just a slap on the wrist. I hope that she serves the full thing too. I cant believe that no one saw this, and that no one stepped in. You better believe that if I saw a group of people beating someone, I would do whatever I could to help the person. even if all that ment was calling the police. Stories like this just make me want to block out the outside world and live in my own little one. where everything is as it should be.
That's disgusting. I used to live there when I was 6, so I didn't experience much, but I remember people being polite, and it was a nice place to live. I have to agree with your last statement on this.
People like that don't deserve jail or rehab or anything like that imo, and sometimes the same goes for the parents and the friends of people like that. I won't say what people like that deserve, as that's another dilema/can of worms...
The case that has just finished in the UK about the murder of a goth by a group of chavs has provoked similar reactions over here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/lancashire/7314306.stm It makes me grateful that I am built like a brick ****-house, as it means I don't tend to attract attention like this, and I know that if someone does try something I can normally handle it. I really feel for those that cannot.
This all somehow reminds me of dogs: they can be the sweetest animals when you have them by themselves or in a controlled situation. However, when they run loose in numbers, pack mentality takes over and violence may well ensue. I don't know the psychological profiles of humans in groups, especially with liberal alcohol consumption thrown into the mix. It just seems to me that in these instances, people are no better than animals.
I'm pretty solid too, but have a group of 3 all with flick knifes, and your screwed. (TBH, without knives it would be quite tricky to get out of).
Yikes. Sad to say, but similar things happen in the US and elsewhere as well. I think that it's a combination of lax parenting and a lack of discipline in educational environments. Somehow, communities are tolerating scores of youth with behavioral and disciplinary problems. The girl that's getting 5.5 years in jail - she's already had 34 convictions, including juvenile convictions. Why didn't the courts do something about her before - were they waiting for conviction #40 before they drew the line? Were they waiting for her to murder someone? 5.5 years for assault and possibly attempted murder seems a bit too lenient a punishment if you ask me. As for the article about the goth assault, the photos of two of the assailants makes me want to fly over them and smack the smirks off their faces. Malicious little chavy assholes. I hope the judge brings the ban hammer and sends them away for a long time, hopefully a decade or three at the very least. The sentence probably won't be that sever though, but should be. A lengthy sentence will only serve to convert an immoral and vicious teenager into an immoral and hardened convict who knows nothing of adult life aside from prison, and then what happens once he's released...
