I'll not make the obvious joke about long, thick, hard black round things...

Under mine? Another pillow and a small (very dim) torch. occasionally, an arm, too.

I can honestly say that I really adore guns, despite having almost no interest in using them, least of all on other people. They're just wonderful things in themselves, one of a number of technological pinnacles that I enjoy for their own sakes.

There are plenty of areas where you can expect to not need to sleep with a gun under your pillow. Here at any rate. Are burglary's common where you live then?

this is so true. however, i'd like to shoot one, once. my aim is not too bad with bow and arrow, but i wonder if that relates...

i only close my door when i'm gone for more than a few days. i do not know anyone living in belgium having a gun.

and under my pillow is usually nothing. sometimes my phone or ebook.

What is it with you people and not having nightstands? o_O

Under my pillow there is absolutely nothing except a bed - but on my nightstand is LotR 2, HTC Desire docking station, laser projection watch and the remote for my lighting.

I'm going to have to kick Losenis's ass for mentioning Space Marines in this thread before me... even if he did give them a shizzle name.

I have my HK SL9 airsoft rifle sitting next to my headrest on my bed though aswell as a nice combat knife there, all in the name of "defence of the realm".

I have a throwing axe under my pillow, and a baseball bat near my bed. Don't wanna go through the hassle of buying a gun, London is trying stop this gun crime business.

In South Africa I had a switch knife under my pillow, along with a panga (machete) hidden behind my nightstand (but in easy reach), along with a cricket bat and baseball bat next to my door. Unfortunately I was too young to own a gun >.>

In the UK, Currently under my pillow are another 2 pillows, then my switch blade. My nightstand contains my airsoft pistol whilst my airsoft rifle is hidden within easy reach.
Sure, its perfectly safe in my area, but old habits die hard

it's amazing to see how many people here have firearms, or imitation firearms they are willing to pull on an intruder. Granted I'd be happy to slot someone who had the cheek of breaking into my home, but it's just M.A.D these days I swear, every man and his wife can own a firearm or a big katana.
