When your esophagus is blocked and you can't eat or drink, or even swallow your own saliva.

Posted in the savings thread I was fighting a bout of dysphagia, well, this morning I hadn't stopped fighting, so I had to go to the ER.

The details are fuzzy right now (as am I, was heavily sedated) but apparently my esophagus was blocked because a severe stricture had caught food IN it, not on top of it, meaning nothing short of that endoscope could get it out. I did see the pics, and my esophagus looked like a damn war zone-bleeding, old nasty scars, and the swollen stricture.

They opened up the stricture (glad I was asleep, even now it feels like I was raped with barbed wire in the esophagus) and cleared everything out, as well as put me on a month of Prilosec full prescription strength and told me to go home and sleep.

Been napping on and off, feel like absolute hell, and I want to see what the doctor told my wife while I was out.

Worst of all? Somewhere between the EKG monitor pads in my fur and my wife snapping cell phone pics while I'm incoherent and putting them up on facebook.

When your soul is empty? The Feeling of Guilt? The feeling that your love just dumped you? Self-pity after said event, and thoughts of suicide?

Although yours is pretty bad on a physical level.

Dude, She's gonna blackmail you with them pics!

I'm glad Marilyn didn't have a camera phone when I died in 2005. Tubes down the throat to pump up collapsed lung, IVs in both arms, burns on my chest from paddles. "CLEAR!"

Never let your women folk take pics of you when you are down, leads to "Did I ever show you these pics of my husband?" stories.

Get some sleep and get well - Mithril will wait.

"Not that I'm aware of." " I find that rather intimidating"

Changed that to a movie quote. Which movie?

We did my death to 'death' in several threads. I was, I ain't.

Ouch. I know what you're up against now. My dad had a rock form in his stomach and it got lodged in the exit. -Lots of discomfort and bile.:(
You will have to relax a bit about your wife's antics. I've seen people do some crazy sh*t when put in a stressful situation.

@John - Quit dying! I heard it's bad for you.

We've had our 4, thank you.

Done the whole dying on the table bit, this time I just slept.

Took a full syringe of Demerol to drop me though. I thought that was kinda funny. I weigh like 120.

Now, hopefully, once my throat heals I can gain some weight. Being able to eat again is nice. Now I can actually shovel my food, and not take tiny bites.

Yay for gluttony!!! (where's the bacon?)

    mmmm bacon.

Glad to hear they got to ya in time though.

I also found out that I have a very high tolerance for opiates when I shattered my wrist in 03. I was at 89lbs at the time (i was 13) and they pumped me with a full syringe of morphine and it did nothing to me.

I use this GNC product twice a day to stabalize my weight loss.

    From here:

2200 calories per shake. I mix in some fresh fruit - bananas, strawberries, peaches, etc.
It comes in several flavors like chocolate(too chocolaty for me), vanilla, and banana(my fav).

Easy to swallow, digests well without gas effects.

Small personal blender and it's easy.

Good luck on the real food too.

Yeah, this kind of stuff is on the grocery list for Friday. Right now, I'm dealing mostly in milk-just the really sore throat from an endoscope.

Thanks for the advice, not the only one with the problem I see...

Don't think you have to worry, Bindi.

John and I are known to have bad health. We're not what you would call normal.

Besides, I thought you knocked on wood, not hugged it. Must be a Brit thing.

I think this one deserves a fmylife.com mention.

I added one today. Last week I spent one of those 20p coins without the date on it. They're selling for £50+ on ebay.

What's worse than an empty stomach? I think you answered your own question:

Anyway, sucks, dude. Hope you'll bounce back soon.
