In a recently closed thread, a certain bit member mentioned how he'd fried a new games console accidently, and somone asked if he 'wears a hoodie?' What, I ask, is wrong with wearing a hoodie? all of my jumpers are hoodies. Here are some reasons hoodies are great: 1. They are cheap, due to not being fashionable. (I just got one for £5) 2. They have a hood, great for this winter weather, and strings to close the hood, even more warmth. 3. They are as warm and comfortable as any other jumper. 4. THEY HAVE POCKETS! I am forever running out of pockets, hoodies give you one big extra pocket, and it's a perfect pocket for warming your hands. For those reasons hoodies are by a wide margin the best jumpers out there, and clearly the warmest. So why would somone who accidently destroys stuff but feels no remorse be associated with this, the king of apparel, as if it were a bad thing?
Hoodies are normaly seen as being worn by people of "questionable character". IE: somebody who commits a crime. They're the perfect garment for sneaking about as they cover a lot of your uppper body, and you can get them without any text/pictures on them in dark colours. Plus, as was half mentioned in the last thread, stereotypes often wear them. Good example: "wiggers". Its silly, stupid, and shows a closed mind that wants to define everything into only a few groups. I wouldn't sweat over it
The problem is not with the hoodie its self, but more that the chav/ned type have adopted it as their formal dress, the more of these types that wear them the more that hoodies will be solely associated with them. It's unfortunate that because of this everyone automatically associates a hoodie with trouble. Personally I don't like hoodies, but thats down to personal taste.
Is that why people always think I'm suspicious? I often get followed around shops by store security. That could also be the full length leather trenchcoat Edit: I always thought hoodies were worn mostly by skater types
Maybe originally so, but so many of these little kids that hang about the streets drinking are now wearing them, so people tend to associate hoodies with silly little kids causing trouble. Ohh and the other reason would be the media, they have taken ownership of the term and associated it with the wrong type.
I think it's got to do with the fact that, when the hood is up, it can completely obscure your face. I fully agree that wearing a hoodie shouldn't barouse any suspicion (unless you've you the hood up and are skulking around looking shifty in a bank or something ) Can't say I've ever had a problem, or been watched closely in a shop or something for wearing a hoodie...
i wear a puma hoody alot of the time im not a chav or a scrote, or what ever u wanna call em i just wear it cause i like it. People r too busy stereotyping these days. You could link certain things with certain people all day its just pointless.
Pointless it may be, but this is what happens, and thats the explanation for why he gets looks whilst wearing a hoodie. Right or wrong.
Hoodies are great xD. I'm wearing a black ghostbusters hoodie now. Wouldent a big red + white logo on a black background make you easier to identify? On top of that - ghostbusters isn't exactly intimidating. Bah - I can see this turning into a huge 'OMG stop stereotyping' thread, and getting closed, so I wont start it all with a chav rant.
Hoodies are fine imo, but I think hoods should not be on whilst inside a shop, there's no need to wear one inside, and it would be better for security. It's just a rather large percentage of people doing crime, wear hoodies, this has given hoodies a bad name.
Since when did hoodies stop being those things that wannabe goth kids used to wear with 'slipknot' or other crappy band name scrawled across the front and become something that a chav wears? Thats what confuses me!
Well yes, most goth types still wear hoodies. But so do a lot of other people. I wouldn't say it's unfashionable either, most people at my high school wear some type of hoodie.
Same. The thing is 2 twin people can wear the same hoodie but be judged differently. It all depends on your disposition and the rest of your clothes. I wear a black Mindless Self Indulgence hoodie a lot but people don't [i hope] consider me "emo" or "goth". This is because I walk normally and don't slouch with a "I hate the world" look. Oh yea extra pockets pwn.
I agree about them actually being fashionable. At the two colleges/universities/unis I've attended, I've always seen a huge percentage (not one to make up percentages, but at least 50% of people) wearing hoodies that "sport" their favorite American football teams, basketball teams, our school, another school, clothing brand, Homestar Runner, whatever... At least in the area(s) where I live, hoodies don't seem to get nearly as much negative stereotyping.
It's society's perception.. look at Burberry (if you must). Burberry are a fashionable (in the industry sense) and expensive clothing label but now they've become a mockery and classed as the definitive streetwear of Chavs. Hoodies have become the same, based on the fact that thugs and streetgangs use them to disguise their faces and blend into the crowd when they're causing trouble. One bad apple etc... As has been said above, it's not necessarily right to ban hooded tops, just bar anyone wearing the hoods up inside premises; just like they do with motorcycle helmets in banks.
Yeah - so, I'm going to go completely off topic here - You brits are weird, but WTF is up with this lady sovereign girl? A friend of mine is obsessed..... Is she popular over there? Has anybody even heard of her?
