So maybe after an hour or so of playing battlefield 3 (haven't tried any other games), I get really bad lag and stuttering and also the sound goes weird, like makes odd 'electronic' sounds almost like some sort of dubstep/dance song! Even if i quit and watch say a youtube video, it still does it! I'm playing at 1080p, lowest settings with a Q6600, 8800GT. I don't ever remember it being like this when it first came out! Any ideas? Possible gpu overheating? Driver issues? (I'm kind of hoping my PC is on its way out so I can build a new one!)
Most likely your 8800GT. Check its temps while playing then report back. Also try lowering the settings if you haven't already to see if it helps.
Your PC is totally f*cked. Don't even bother trying to fix it, just new build - you know you want to lol Seriously though, run bf3 while runnin software that displays your gpu's temps, just to make sure of that 1st, especially if its only happening after a session of gameplay. what drivers are you using for your card ? i think 306.xx is the latest line of drivers (not including beta drivers ), could try that as well. Otherwise.....wait for someone else to come along who can help more......or hit the shops Hope you get it sorted Edit : Taking 15 mins to post, then saying what someone else said before me makes me look stupid lmao
MSI Afterburner can overlay framerate, GPU load, temp and whatever else it's capable of monitoring onto your screen.
Sell the ****er, fast, or bin it. 8800GT is a Mayan relic now m8, UPGRADE BEFORE YOUR WHOLE WORLD EXPLODES!!
How can I sell it? Its broken lol! So the moment I have been waiting for for over a year, now I have an excuse to build a new pc
How so bloggins? Its made by a company that I don't even think exists anymore, 'BFG Tech' or something
Err, also, you could try to uninstall the Nvidia HD Audio drivers. Sounds like they could be conflicting with your mobo drivers (by the fact that the audio goes into a loop)
Thats the one i couldn't think of, i knew there was something else, either that or ghosts in your psu which cause emi lol Sadly BFG did cease to trade, so your screwed for RMA ( they did offer 10 years in uk, lifetime in us warrenty ), which is a shame since i still have a bfg 8800 gts Msi is a great program for checking your gc, id also use HWmonitor, its more about showing temps and voltages, rather than the control AB gives you, but it will give you an idea of temps all over your system. Seriously though m8, i would just split your old system, get as much as you can for the bits, and new build. I went from a q6600 and a 8800gts system, to what i have now, and i cant tell you how much im impressed, with missing a few genrations of chips, the step up is immense, and as for ssd's....wow i never believed the hype before, but they are totally worth it.
Download HWMonitor and run it while playing Battlefield 3, as it will store the minimum, average and maximum temps of the graphics card, motherboard, cpu etc it's a quite handy piece of software for monitoring temps. I use it all the time, as well as Real Temp and MSI Afterburner for a complete temp monitor system.
Likely to be a temp issue that causes the GPU to underclock itself. The Q6600 is pretty decent (no issue with mine @ stock speed, but I have an HD5870). The GF 8800GT is pretty aged now, maybe you could retim it, that could help lowering the temp if you never did it, but at least a GPU upgrade will help a lot.
