This is a pretty good reflection of my asipirations.

Still, that Lancia Delta Integrale would complete my life. It's just something that's so desirable.

To pull off the greatest heist of all-time.
    :worried:

I have a few things I'd like to do. Most, if not all of them, are do-able.

    1) I'm heavily into my writing and love good pen & paper role-play systems, so one of my dreams would be to create an intuitive system that becomes widely adopted as an industry standard. I don't expect to ever knock the many incarnations of D&D off of the top-spot, but want to develop something that acts as a popular alternative.

    2) To finish writing my series of science-fiction novels.
I'm currently working on book four of the seven part series, with a rough target of 2017 to finish the entire series. It's mostly a set of novels for my personal collection, I haven't decided if I want to pursue a publisher or not but I think it would be nice to get something out on the shelves when they're all done.

    3) To start-up a small media business (undecided on whether I want to focus on video games or animated films).
I'll probably need to settle back into an established studio for a few of years and shadow someone in management for a while before I can start advanced planning for something of my own. If I start a games development studio, I'll definitely have to try drag a few old friends from previous employers along for the ride as I'd want to kick off with a team who are already somewhat familiar with my preferred style.

    4) I'd love to buy a plot of land and work with a set of architects & builders to design my own house and have it built from the ground up.

    5) One of my goals is to get my full pilot's licence for small to medium sized commercial/cargo jets, I've had a few lessons in a small two-person aircraft but would love to fly a 40-50 passenger twin-turboprop engine plane.

There's no particular order to the list, but looking at the arrangement they probably would work quite well in that order.

I'll let you know when I get my planned practice up and running ;)

The good thing is, building your own home is much cheaper than buying an existing house. The main sticking points are the hassle of having to wait months for it to be built, and mortgages are harder to obtain, usually with instalments only released after certain stages of the build are complete. Insane plot prices don't help either.

Still I don't quite understand why more don't go down this route. Why buy a boring run of the mill house, when for less money it's possible to get one designed to your preferences, which is bigger and of a higher quality?

It's one of the only situations in life where having something custom built is cheaper than 'off the shelf'!

    Cure my laziness.

Seems like way too much effort for now though. Maybe later.

Land. It is very difficult to find a bare patch of land to build on in most places.

To find work that leads to a career (yes I just want to settle into something long term). Currently out of work for what must be nearing 15 months, had several interviews with companies that are either inept or plainly not interested, which confuses me as they've asked for the interview..

Get married to the long suffering girlfriend, it's been nearly 10 years and has become a long running joke amongst our friends. We're refereed to as "married" with out the legal bit. Which is nice, but stings a little as it's a constant reminder.

One small dream is to pull my Saab 900 off the road and do a partial rebuild of the suspension/running gear and drive train, then get the body into a decent body shop and have previous owners mistakes removed. (keyed and parking dents :( )

In reality to build our own home, that costs virtually nothing to run. Solar heating being a big part of that, along with a good thermal mass. Power generation using green technologies is still a little bit of a joke atm, but you can offset the cost a small amount. Ideally the conversion of an old water mill would be perfect, mmm my own hydro-electric power!

All before I am 30, or at least ticked off a few of those... hmm that gives me 4 years.

Gearing up for an alligator/boa bowhunt. Alligator because without a kill I'm not a Seminole warrior (and I'm half Seminole, for those wondering) and boa because they're a horrible invasive species over here. I'm building my own bow and arrows for this, made my own knife for cleaning/skinning, and I plan to tan the hide myself, as well as eat the meat and use the bones for knifemaking and other tools. It's kind of like a religious experience if you're looking for a parallel-this is my shot at feeling like a man of the Seminole nation. I want to do something like my forefathers did-if I get an opportunity for alligator wrestling I'm gonna take it.

I've already got my wife on board, and I've set myself a goal of next summer's alligator season here in AL. If I make it through that I'm gonna try for home-the Everglades, and the boa hunt. No sense in having a goal if you're not going to try to achieve it.

My main dream in life is for my friends to all prosper (by their own standards) and be the best version of themselves they can be - this is extended to my family as well but they are doing fairly alright at that without me dreaming for it.

Something that I could actually manage to reach:

    • Graduate from Uni...
    • ...and get a decent and secure job.
    • Own a decent apartment before hitting age of thirty.
    • Make enough money by trading stocks so I can afford to have a bit longer unpaid vacation from work to do more other stuff I like.
    • Live a healthy life.

Maybe more "feet on the ground" dreams:

    • Earn a living by stock trading (looooooooooo...ooooooong way to go).
    • Own a house with big carage + enough space for small gym with basic equipment
    • Own a Porsche 911, there is so many models I would want, but anything goes from old to new, as long it has round front lights.
    • Have enough resources to build anything from PC mods to random track cars and DIY UAVs in my carage.
    • Travel through Europe and maybe North America (USA/Canada) with my Porsche (if I have one)
    • Spend time with awesome people
    • Live a healthy life

Little bit less "feet on the ground" dreams:

    • Earn much more than just a living with stock trading...
    • ...start own fund (employ people who truly love trading the markets)...
    • ...to genuinely help other people with great visions to reach their own dreams (start-up money without interests to make profit or having share of the company). + Free consulting/legal support to really make the things work without fatal problems.
    • Collect few more cars (and maybe bikes) that I fancy.
    • Have a lot bigger house with bigger carage...
    • ...to fit my cars (and maybe bikes) + bigger private gym.
    • Own a Yacht (that can fit at least one of my cars)...
    • ...travel the world with my Yacht and Porsche (or some other car)!
    • Have the resources to own apartments that I could rent very cheaply (without losses of course) to students etc. so they could actually study and become awesome on what they love and not just work their ass off.
    • Start a private security company, because I hate how cheaply the companies do it nowadays (I've worked on few) and they can be very flawed because of that sometimes. Basicly no interests to make money with the company, all profits would go towards the employees and their gear, safety and training, so the client can truly trust on the security company.
    • And be awesome with the philanthropy spirit.
    • Live a healthy life

This is definetly the way I am going to go if I am going to purchase a house in my life (and of course if I have missus by then, it would propably be good if she wants a self planned house too, rather than "off the shelf" -product). And as said, if I can find good location for it.

I really just never knew that it's cheaper too o_O Awesome!

:) I'll keep that in mind.

It's amazing how different the cost of building is compared to buying, I've seen a few quotes for builds from my uncle's business and the difference can be shocking for larger properties.

I often find it bizarre that very few people even consider a build rather than a buy, it's always best to weigh up all your options for something that is potentially a purchase for life.
Even with the added job of of finding land, researching the planning permissions and talking with local services for plumbing, electricity and telephone lines, it's still worth checking while you look at existing properties.

It's like almost everyone is just happy to accept what they're given and too lazy ask for what they really want.

It's not necessarily cheaper, it depends on the land price, your specification, whether you design it yourself, do any substantial amount of the work yourself, whether you site manage it, project manage it, subcontract the job lot to a building co (they take most of your margin), whether there are services in the vicinity, etc. etc. etc.

More people don't do it because of limited land availability to start with, then the commitment it requires to see it through. It's no picnic, I know from experience! But would I do it again? Hell yeah :D
