having jumped about a bit job wise this year, i have seen how a number of departments work. I managed to get a student placement in an IT dept, but feel like a broken 3rd wheel at the moment. so im wondering how other people are job wise......
Student, washing.waxing 2-4 boats a week (only wed-fri)... you wake up 6:30, go to the location, wash/scrape the boat, get some chemicals in your eyes... wash some more, take the cash and go home. However I only get a ride one way, so I have to drive 10-17km by bike back home, that is extremely pleasent after work, and considering the garbadge cans out on the sidewalks in the morning, and overgrown bushes that extend to the sidewalks.... So I get to drive on a street.... Oh and did I mention drivers in New York. I also get some cash for building a PC here and there... Sometimes reinstall Win, fix something. And I edit with photoshop, make newsletters for local Hindu community... And then I look into my wallet and think to myself... So college you say ehh?
I "work" here. But technically im just a bum who lives off his parents. OT: If anyone has any good forensics jobs, anywhere in the world - lemme know please!
IT Manager – I try to be as stupid as possible when it comes to computers just to satisfy the common misconception that all IT managers are idiots Of course I have to school my department at UT every now and again.... or are they letting me win?!!?!?!
job title is MVS operator i babysit a datacentre, making sure everything is availible and fixing things or finding people who can when things fall over
Guess it`d be Student, i "could" get a part time job but tbh i dont need the money, and i cant be botherd.lol `P2D
Technical Support Advisor i sit on my arse browsing forums and playing flash games whilst waiting for something to break or someone to give me something to do
Job Title: IT Technician Basically I do technical support for pretty much anything that pops into my managers head. It doesn't matter if I've never seen used or heard about some of the stuff I support (gotta love google). The only thing I can take solace in, is that my manager knows nothing about PCs. So long as I sound like I know what I'm talking about, he's happy.
currently a student with a sponcer so technically im employed by Stolt Offshore. 2 months workshop skills in the summer untill i graduate and then 9-10 months sea time. Hence the strange thread i posted about if i should get any more vaccinations.

Student. But sometimes do some webdesign/graphics design at 15€/hour. Also work now and then (gardening, painting, plumming) at 12,50€/hour. Summerjob pays about 7,50€/hour, but its just selling at an electronics store. (most of the time its pretty easy work) L
Oh man, I did that for 5 years at MetLife with IBM ES9000 mainframes, graveyard shift... Lots of nothing at all to do :\ Me, my official title is Network Specialist. However, unofficial titles include Network Engineer, Webmaster & Media Specialist as I am the one responsable for all servers and networks relating to the in-house Intranet and web access, maintain all internal and external web sites & do audio/video production work for employee training (Ie: I make training video's).
I've alway's been heading to Architecture but since I got involved in PC's I was looking into aquirer some System Administrator or such name so I could work and support my architecture education... Maybe someone could enlighten the little confused Cheap on how I could aquire something like that without investing much and without spending many years? I would be very grateful.
The title is a bit of a misnomer where I am at the moment really, as we do indeed play on z/OS, but its far from sitting in front of a grotty 13" console all day (my workstation has 4x21" and 4x30" LCDs to start). theres a lot of unix, windows, oracle, network and tape stuff as well. But it can be a bit quiet sometimes. Fortunately, theres satellite TV, consoles and DVD players to kill time when its business as usual The best bit is that i get experience with a whole buttload of different things, which is ideal as its my first real job , making it an ideal platform to start off on. Where i am now theres about half a dozen distinct different directions that i can go, which is great. The other plus side is that im making at least double of the average graduate job in the UK. that'll teach all my friends that applied for graduate-only positions
