OKAY, Im a bit unsure about the whole PSU thing. My system is as follows: Athlon 1.4ghz gigabyte mobo ga-7dx 256ddr ram herc 3d prophet 2 4500 grfx card cdrw dvd drive 80mm case fan sunon 60mm as rear exhaust two case blowers (the small black ones) 2xhd (one 15gig and one 3gig) I only have a generic 300w power supply. When should I be looking to get a bigger wattage? I have MBM5 but I'm unsure what I should be looking out for in terms of the voltages etc. Anyone help? I would really appreciate anything anyone can offer.
I've run a lot more than that off a generic 300W. Only worry if the machine is crashing for no apparent reason, and you can hear the pitch of the system fans change as the load level on the CPU changes. I have a chieftec 340W, which would be regarded by many as a generic, but it is perfectly capable of handling my kit, listed in my sig...I have 5 PCI cards, etc....
Cheers! I was getting a bit paranoid after reading some posts, but what voltage should I be looking out for as a warning sign?
As Isaac said, your system stability is the first thing to go. If you can't cure system crashes by re-installing, etc, the psu may be struggling.
i have an 250W PSU that i run this with: P4 1.5GHz @ 1.65GHz 512mb ram, Sparkle MX200, Maxtor D740X 80GB, Samsung Spinpoint 30GB, 3 fans, one cdrw and one dvd, i havent had any problems yet, may be that my psu can deliver 13 amps in 12V which is kindof much for a 250W imo...
