AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH This last week has been a nightmare and I just am choosing to vent. Last thursday I was in a fender bender because the lady slammed on her brakes as I was putting up my sun visor and i rear-ended her. Ok, she was cool about it, no insurance call or anything *whew* This last wednesday my grandmother passed away three days I was going to see her for her 94th birthday, my dog had to be put down due to cancer, my company screwed up my paycheck, I rear-ended another woman as I was too close and my brakes locked up when she hit hers, and now I am trying to figure out how bumper damage is costing me $850 possibly over 1000. [/rant] I know most of this is my fault but still it has been a bad week and I just needed to vent.
That sucks dude. My week wasn't that bad, although I did get my heart ripped out.... Sorry about your Grandmother and your dog.
Hopefully you'll learn to put a 2 second gap between you and the car in front - and that's the recommendation in good weather. Germany has laws against tailgating - I wish other countries followed suit. It's sad to hear of an elderly relation passing away, but tbh 94 is a damn good innings! See, I'm not a totally insensitive *******.
Most places here in the States have a law against tailgating. It's just not heavily enforced. -monkey
IMO all cars should be equipped with guns. Tailgaters should be shot on the spot. The recommendation is to be 3 seconds behind the car in front of you. In the winter it should be about 5. It looks very far when you are driving fast, but those meters gets eaten away VERY fast when something happens. I don't drive that much, but most of it is on a highway, and i have saved myself at least two crashes by holding a good distance. The downside is that people tend to slip in in front of me, but that's a small price to pay. My sympathies to the OP for everything except the two crashes. Crashing the same way two times in a week ain't bad luck, mate...
they have a similar system to that in place in Manchester, have you ever been? </dig at Manchester> But seriously, sorry for your losses... just think at least neither your dog or your gran are suffering from immense pain or were when they passed away?
Sorry to hear about you Grandma and dog. Now that that's out of the way. Learn how to drive before you kill someone.
Well I do have some good news regarding half of the info. The reason my driving has been like it was was because I had never ad an accident in the 4 years and many people (approx 75%) in my town only give 1-2 car lengths at 45-60mph so that is what I was used to and lately with all my stress it just didn't mix and I ****ed up. Good news is that I have learned my lesson regarding giving more space and will be following the 2-3sec rule rather than the car length rule we were taught in school (they say that a safe limit is 1 car length every 20mph, or at least that is what we were taught). Thank you all for your sympathies regarding my grandmother and dog, and I understood i would only get flame for the driving, but now I have learned my lesson and hopefully will come out of this a better person and driver. cheers.
I have real sympathy for ya dude, you come on to have a bit of rant and get things off your chest then you get yapped at for your actions off the forumites. Take a leaf out of Eric Idle's books aaaaaand...... PS have a beer take a deep breath and put your feet up
All been said above, but the 2 crashes were your fault and I have no sympathy whatsoever. If you left a large enough gap, you'd be able to stop, even if the other person just slams on for shits and giggles... you'll still be able to stop. Even if they hit an invisible, immovable barrier teleported in from a parallel dimension... you'll still be able to stop In a rear end collision, it's ALWAYS the person behind to blame. You were too close. The end. I am genuinely sorry to hear about the other stuff though
