Modding When Sleeving PSU: Do the cables have to be re-inserted in the same connector place?

Im getting ready to sleeve my Power supply, and I had a quick question about the wiring:

I've gotten all the wires out of their terminals and like most psu's theres a mixture of colored wiring. Does it matter which wires I insert into the slots on the connector? For example the 24Pin ATX, do the wires that I have sleeved and crimped have to be re-inserted into the ATX 24Pin according to how they where when I extracted them? Or does it not matter as long as your using the wires from the board for the ATX 24Pin connection and not the ones for say, a 6Pin.

I just want to be sure I do this properly :)

If someone could clear this up for me that would be great.

As long as you make the same connections, it doesn't matter which physical wire you use.

    Oh, He11 yes it matters!:eeek:

Different coloured wires carry different voltages. If the wrong component gets the wrong voltage, your mobo will go up in smoke! :duh:

Also keep in mind that in modular PSUs the pin layout may not be the same at the PSU end as at the mobo end. Keep careful track of where the pins belong when you pull them out of the connector.

If you're concerned about messing something up, you could alternatively just purchase sleeved cable extensions.

What he said! Also don't assume that it's just the colours that you need to obey; it's best practice to remove and replace them in exactly the same order to keep the load evenly distributed across all rails in the PSU.
