Im getting ready to sleeve my Power supply, and I had a quick question about the wiring: I've gotten all the wires out of their terminals and like most psu's theres a mixture of colored wiring. Does it matter which wires I insert into the slots on the connector? For example the 24Pin ATX, do the wires that I have sleeved and crimped have to be re-inserted into the ATX 24Pin according to how they where when I extracted them? Or does it not matter as long as your using the wires from the board for the ATX 24Pin connection and not the ones for say, a 6Pin. I just want to be sure I do this properly If someone could clear this up for me that would be great. - Grady o-o
Oh, He11 yes it matters! Different coloured wires carry different voltages. If the wrong component gets the wrong voltage, your mobo will go up in smoke! Looky here:- http://pinouts.ru/Power/atx_v2_pinout.shtml
Thanks for the responses guys. And thanks for the referance- I looked for some before I posted and they where just too much going on in them, This looks alot simpler Thanks!
Also keep in mind that in modular PSUs the pin layout may not be the same at the PSU end as at the mobo end. Keep careful track of where the pins belong when you pull them out of the connector.
If you're concerned about messing something up, you could alternatively just purchase sleeved cable extensions.
What he said! Also don't assume that it's just the colours that you need to obey; it's best practice to remove and replace them in exactly the same order to keep the load evenly distributed across all rails in the PSU.
