hey guys, ive got a sealed copy of the west wing season 1 on dvd (which cunningly i already own) anyone know if any shops still let you exchange stuff without the actual receipt? i know our price used to do it back in the day but dont know if anyone else lets you do it any more. uk shops only, any help would be much appreciated, thanks.
Sorry to post something completely useless, but my retail-stincs kicked in and I just couldnt help but wonder why you dont have a receipt. To me, just comes across rather suspiciously. No offense. When you work in retail, and this kinda question pops up, I just wonder. In the US, if you dont care about only getting store credit, then most shops do that.
He will have stolen it, so no receipt. Though he'll claim it was a gift I'm sure, these gingers are a sneaky bunch.
A lot of places won't let you exchange DVD's even WITH a receipt, due to people running off a quick copy and taking it back. I think a lot of places give gift receipts too, so most won't take "It was a present" as an excuse. I'm not really sure what your options are, I'm thinking ebay or Cash Converters or the like.
What a trusting lot you are. Why would you steal something you all ready own??? i presume a gift. No where in the UK will let you exchange it for full value(that i know of) unfortunately withou a receipt. But game station will do exchanges along with CEX and those kinda places but wont get full value back. Also if had nicked it it wouldn't still be i its wrapping cos he have to remove that so not to set the alarm in the shop off when leaveing.
I've illegally downloaded several films, only to later realise I already had them buried in my DVD collection. Is it still stealing if you own the same thing? Perhaps. It's all rather messy. Easiest* place to trade sealed DVDs is probably the market. The usual copy-sellers would probably be overjoyed to see a genuine - gives them an original to work off of. *Banhammer-proof: I didn't say "best"
eBay or Cash Converters. If it is a gift, you'll still make profit. Or return it to the giver who may still have the receipt, and can swap if for something else you want.
nice to know im innocent until proven guilty.... if you must know i bought it a while back from hmv online for £10 I recently got the 1-6 season boxset as it was going very cheaply, and so now have a spare copy sealed, from that boxset. And yeah im not that bothered by a full refund but somewhere with store credit might be nice.
Nice, but not very honest. But you are guilty. You are basically cheating to so that someone else carries the financial burden of your buying decisions while you go scott-free. Don't work like that. If Woolies (or whoever takes it off your hands) doesn't manage to sell it, they have made a loss. That's why Cash Converters and Computer Exchange never give you the full value for even an unopened product: they are essentially running a risk of making a loss on the exchange if they cannot sell it on for at least the same money they gave you for it.
nice to know you live in a world of thought crime nexxo, given i havent done anything yet, but im still guilty :'( its hardly the most morally bankrupt thing in the world, if i did it i wouldnt be stealing it, id be swapping it for something of the same value... While i agree if they dont sell it they might lose out, equally they may not have sold the thing i swapped it with. And the reason why cash converters dont give full value for anything is that they are evil cretins out to screw the poor. (and it wouldnt make much business sense now would it)
How is that his problem? If they don’t want to take the risk of not selling it, they don’t have to buy it from him. I bought a game for 65bucks once and I hated it. so I took it to a used game store and sold it. The guy only gave me 15 for it because he already had a copy in stock. I asked for more money for it anyway and he said no. So I took the $15(I really hated that game). Maybe he sold it and maybe he didn't but that was a risk that he was willing to take, and I have no responsiblity for his decisions. And people are innocent until proven guilty. I don’t know how he got the dvd. No one here does except him. And its not right to judge him based on what you believe.
Ever hear of 'criminal intent'? If you feel that it is really no problem, why don't you just go to Woollies and say: "Honest, I've got this DVD, unopened original, which I didn't buy from you but could I swap it for another of equal value? You shouldn't lose out since you still have a brand-new, unopened DVD". But you won't, because you know what they would say. In the end, you are trying to trick them into doing something they wouldn't want to do, just because you think it is OK. No, it is pure business. The poor don't have to enter the transaction. Cash Converters takes stuff that may be stolen or malfunctioning, in which case they risk losing out. The rest is market forces, mate. You don't have to sell. That was obviously a risk he was willing to take for exactly $15,--. You were obviously willing to cut losses of $50,-- to get rid. Thus a deal was struck. You didn't have to sell.
If its a signal out of dvd box it wont have a barcode on it. so they most likely wont take it. Its amazing how quickly shops system collapse if there's no barcode
yes, but my point was that if the store doesn't manage to sell it, and they take a loss as a result, its not my problem. Just like if fathazza sells the dvd and the store he sells it to doesn't manage to sell it, its not his problem either.
No it isn't, it's theirs. So they won't take DVDs without a receipt, and Cash Converters will not pay you full whack for your game. However fathazza proposes to make his problem someone else's without their agreement. That's dishonest, sorry.
