Yep, complete beginner but all this moddings here is amazing! Where did you learn to mod? I want to mod! It's an incredible skill yeah? Can I learn from home, through the net and via books or would I definately need some courses? I have no experience at all in electronics etc...
I learned most of everything right here at bit-tech which is why I decided to make this my mod-home. Between the articles and exchanging ideas with forum members there is a lot to take in and you learn something almost every day. Nothing beats experience. The key is just get started even if it doesn't go so well. Start with simple mods and build your skill and confidence levels up. There are other good sites on the web as well two good sites that compliment bit-tech are: http://linear1.org/ - run by staffmember and moderator Linear (lots of good faqs and tutorials) www.7volts.com - a really good non-commercial site geared for straight forward education.
Play with stuff. Take it apart Figure out how it works Put it back together Use the ideas to make your own stuff. Be creative, but don't worry about trying things others have done first, they usually don't mind, and are usually willing to help you figure out how to do it. Ask questions... The only stupid question is the one you don't ask, and don't know the answer to.
This may be the only forum where the above is a true statement, and it's the best reason to hang out here.
I find the best way to learn is by doing Grab the power tools and go to town on your case I started on a case that I wasn't too worried about messing up. As it happened, things went fairly well. Once that happens your confidence grows and you can move on to the more expensive cases or more complicated mods.
I havent actually started anything yet, Been looking at sites for the last 6 weeks or so but here is definately the BEST been getting soo many ideas and im just about to start my project.
buy a dremel. plug it in, tighten in cuttin disc, find case. apply dremel to case at high RPM. thats how you learn.
I've been tearing things apart and putting them back together since i was a little kid ... I was the kid in my neighborhood that modded everyones coaster brakes into freewheels ... i was also the one that built all the skate ramps and other potenially disastrous objects ... honestly, i believe some people are just born with the urge to understand how stuff works .. and usually reverse engineering is the fastest way to learn ... then in high school, i took all the art classes that i could, cause my school was literally in the middle of a corn field ... if you werent a farmer or a football player, the easiest way to stay away from the rednecks was to hang in the art hall all day ... and computers and my high school just didnt co-exist ... mind you i graduated in 90 ...
im not really one of those modders that hacks up cases to put windows in hell ive been doing the electronics side of things for a couple of years now and ive only just thought bout changing the colour of my case think the first thing i made was an amp to go in a floppy bay cos my sound card sucked and was too quiet but that was years before the live drive hmmmm i sort of taught my self electronics by trial and error just doing simple circuits on bread board and stuff while reading the symbols out of a book cos i didnt know what they were then just went and applied it to my pc this was before it was known as "modding" tho /me is just off to sort out a cdrw with dremmel MUAHAHAHA
I've learned here there's so much ideas and great skills here to teach you how to mod all you need is patience. bing unpatient always screws everything (some electronics and dremel skills are a plus but they are easy to develop) by asking people you know and people here you can learn a lot. and it don,t only serve you in modding... the skills needed are useful around the house or whatever I've developped my modding skills by the "try-error-try again" technique... it's like that in about everything I guess I've learned with people I know... people here... articles on the web... you don't need any courses

The first time I tried to find this site, I hit that one... Kinda funny.. .I could put in a Helluva window with one of those bits tho...
I started out on my own. (Before I even knew there was a PC modification community) Now it's all bit-tech all the way. The advanced modders challenge me to be to do more, and the newbie modders inspire tons of ideas in me. Keep them coming..
