I'm tired of keeping my mods on top of bookcases, in the tack room, and in their travel cases. I want to put them all in one place . Like a museum of my mods and the Notalis case. A partial list of some I still have: Cooler Master 620 HTPC ITX design reference(unreleased board) case my G5 cube mini-ITX with it's original Apple Macintosh carry case the Bernoulli box conversion from the early 1990s with it's case. Portable desktop mod using thin client. Casdon 379 - the EU child's washing machine mini-ITX mod and it's companion dryer. the EGG mini-ITX project the Stenograph mini-ITX project 2 of 2 a lifesize Borg female mannequin torso mATX project and Notalis - deserves a special place of it's own. With the exception of the 620 and the mannequin they are all about 16 x 16 x 16" max Where do you keep your stuff? Lawyer's bookcase with glass doors? Dedicated wall? Space is actually NOT my problem. My current room is 14' x 24' with an attached 6' bathroom and walkin closet with another closet inside it. Stash room plenty.I think if I had them out I would be more motivated to finish/redo some of them. H2O-C7 is happily spooling sports DVDs at my friend's sports bar. I should have put a tip jar with it for all the compliments it gets! john
ill see if i can make a desk in my workshop, so if i dont know where to go with my design, or be pissed about screwing something up, id look at what ive created already and get new creative energy
I asked this question on 5 forums and got 2 answers. Never mind I'll figure it out. Tomorrow I'll get all the mods out and see how much room I need.
all my old mods are hacked to bits to provide parts for new ones Anyway, all those ITX cases together should be a blast. You should put them on the wall in a staircase, so you automatically get to see them from every angle. The mannequin might be a bit too big though
John, The next obvious step is to set them all up in a 'museum' with power applied to all, and a rolling KVM switch to have them alternate what they have running on them displayed on a nice wall mounted flat screen !! Or just hide them away behind glass and dust them off once in a while. Nanosec
I'm running out of desk space. Custom rigs replace plain rigs. As something new comes in, something else must leave to make room. I use my oldest two cases for getting new systems running, (before there's a case for them). When not in use, they are stacked on top of each other and filled with stray parts. A good way to save floor space would be to add a shelf near the ceiling around the walls. -I've seen that done for train sets and State souvenir plates.
You know I could take my 2 empty G5 cases, put a nice glass or wood shelf across them and display the mini-ITX cases on that. Might even make a couple shelves tall. Hmmmm....
They're all crammed into a small shed covered with that icky stuff that only appears in really damp places. I also think the ghost of Cold Fusion lives there
More like: Buy, mod, buy, mod a little better, buy, mod pretty good, buy, scratchbuild. Never thought of selling. Each one is a personal time machine. "Our memories take us back in time, and our dreams take us forward in time." - something like that from Time machine movie.
Cat-Bomber planks have to be the worst invention ever. Why would you give them a chance to reach your jugular vein? -Sell?
That is true. I've sold well over 10 mods now but for me getting some of the money back (and a little more on occasions) means I have room (phycially and financially) for the next one. However I'd love to have them all lined up on a bench somewhere. Maybe when I get a bigger place!
If i dont' hak mine up then good old parents house does the trick (once you've moved out so they can't complain )
Back in 2002 where i did my last build all of my builds had a purpose ( 1 for the bedroom, one for the girlfriend, one for my sister, two for the livingroom ). So they were all visible at all times to joy my eyes. However as time passed me by i changed interior and they one by one ended up in my own or others basement ( Some of them also due to the fact that the hardware was gettin pretty outdated). However, after having started to make all new furnitures for my livingroom, i needed to build a new case also for all electronics ( Purpose: hiding Media center and all wirings in the whole of the room ). Having browsed several modding sites for inspiration only, i recalled the joy of posting progress on the work. This made me return to my basement and getting all those old mods back up into my apartment. The bliss i got from this cant be explained with words. But im so glad by now that i never chopped em up or sold them. Its kinda nostalgic and brings to mind how it was back then. So in case you never end up making that room for your mods, DO NOT THROW THEM AWAY, or chop em up. They will bring joy once again even thou they have been hidden away for years. Offtopic: Having browsed bit-tech forums for some weeks now, audience seems much more mature than the modding sites i used back in the days. The positive feedback all you guys gives in peoples project logs to keep em building makes me want to once again start doing logs of my builds. So thank you all for bringing the motivation back after 7 years of lurking. Sorry for the long post, just couldnt resist posting how you make me feel. What can i say, once a modder always a modder.
There is always the EEEEEBAAAAAAY SAAAALEEEEE option, but, i would think twice before selling something that cost so much work and brings a lot of joy maybe doing a super mod that holds up all your mods? its sounds crazy but all is fair in mod & war
