Windows where does outlook express store old email?

    Im sure that this has been asked before - but i want to keep all my old email before wiping the hdd - can i just copy all old emails before reformatting the drive?

    Unless you've changed it from the default store folder it is stored here:

    C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\String\Microsoft\Outlook Express

    where 'string' is something like: {5BF15146-B1D2-4657-8B8C}

    You can just copy all the files in this folder and place them back in the same place when you reinstall and it will be the same.

    You may also want to back up the Addressbook to thats stored here

    C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Microsoft\Address Book

    There's also some freeware will do the job, plus save message rules and program settings. And restore everything.

    It's called OE Backup. Neat name, huh... :rolleyes:
